Frozen Vegetarian Food Review: Morningstar Farms Southwestern-Style Veggie Cakes

These Rice and Vegetable Cakes Had a Wonderful Flavor

Very recently I tried some new vegetarian frozen food products. This included Boca Bruschetta Tomato Basil Parmesan Meatless Burger, Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwich and Morningstar Farms Ginger & Teriyaki Veggie Cakes. In addition to these three the last thing that I tried that was new Southwestern Style Veggie Cakes by Morningstar Farms. Here is what I thought about it.

The whole reason that I decided to try out this product and the other three is because I wanted to get some quick frozen vegetarian products that I could have at my mom's while I was visiting her for a week. The one thing that all four items had in common was that I had never tried them before and so I thought it would be nice to have something new. I had not been getting any such frozen vegetarian food items for a long time so even something that I had already tried would have been different than what I was use to. When I had the Southwestern Style Veggie Cakes by Morningstar Farms I had them with some stir-fry. I thought that the veggie cakes would complement a rice dish since they are made of vegetables and rice.

These Southwestern Style Veggie Cakes by Morningstar Farms also contained beans. To see what kind of beans they had in them I studied the ingredients. I was amazed how many items go into these veggie cakes. The ingredients were cooked sticky rice, cooked black beans, cheddar cheese, water, green peppers, roasted corn, diced tomatoes, soy protein concentrate, wheat protein with two percent or less of corn oil, garlic, salt, dried yeast, spices, yeast extract, onion, methylcellulose, cilantro, xanthan gum, sugar, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, paprika, modified corn starch, natural flavors from non-meat sources, niacinamide, chipotle pepper, lactic acid, jalapeno pepper, citric acid, carrageenan, iron, egg whites, thiamin mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride riboflavin, turmeric for color and vitamin B12. I like black beans so I was eager to taste these rice and veggie cakes.

While the Southwestern Style Veggie Cakes by Morningstar Farms were cooking I read the nutrition facts. The box that contained four veggie cakes cost two dollars and fifty cents. Thinking about how the ingredients included vitamins I looked over the nutrition facts before storing the box for a craft. In each veggie cake there is one hundred and thirty calories with thirty calories from fat, five milligrams of cholesterol, three hundred and forty milligrams of sodium, one hundred and forty milligrams of potassium, twenty-one grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fiber and six grams of protein. It listed vitamin A and C with two percent, calcium with four percent, riboflavin with ten percent, iron with twenty percent, vitamin B6 with twenty-five percent and both niacin and vitamin B12 with fifty percent. Now that the rice and veggie cakes were ready and I was ready to taste them.

I thought that the Southwestern Style Veggie Cakes by Morningstar Farms tasted very, very good. I actually liked them a little bit more than the other veggie cakes that I had tried from this company. If I had to guess I would say that this was due to the seasonings used and the wonderful black beans in rice and veggie cakes. I was very glad that I had got this food item and I will keep it in mind if I want to get another box of rice and veggie cakes or even just a frozen vegetarian food item. I would recommend for anyone to try them out, they had a wonderful flavor that really makes you think twice about how good rice and vegetables can taste.
