This article, Fruit Alphabetical List, List of Fruits, Facts About Fruit and (Fruit) Names, is similar to an article I did on pasta shapes and names, located here.

Much like it, too, this introduction starts out going down memory lane about a framed print. I used to have hanging up in my kitchen a framed print listing a number of exotic fruits from around the world. Food long has been of great interest to me. Without question the culture that I'm from has something to do with it; but it goes beyond the love of food with which New Orleanians grow up having.

If you're a lover of fruit, you may enjoy this quick list of fruits with attendent facts about them and their names. It's a fruit alphabetical list that's non-exhaustive. There's just too much fruit in this world to fit into a 400 word article. However, from what images sites Associated Content allows I did manage to dig up an image of one of the rarer fruits in this list. Enjoy!

Fruit Alphabetical List, List of Fruits, Facts About Fruit and (Fruit) Names

Avocado: Over 85% of all avocados consumed in the United States come from the state of California, even though the earliest mention of this fruit that we know dates back to 291 B.C.E. to Central Mexico-and the world's largest producer of Avocados is Mexico. The name of this fruit is an alteration to the Spanish word for testicle because of its shape.

Breadfruit: This Malayan tree fruit is so named because, well..., it tastes like bread. Every season throughout the Malayan geographical area where these trees grow, up to 200 or more grapefruit sized fruit are produced per tree.

Cherimoya: Mark Twain once said the cherimoya is "the most delicious fruit known to men." If you've never laid eyes, much less your teeth, on a cherimoya, all of the varieties of it are pre-historic looking, so to speak. The fruit inside the green skin is white and full of seeds. In fact, according to Wikipedia, its name means "cold seeds," for the high altitudes where it grows.

Durian: Another odd looking fruit to Americans, the Durian is covered in thorns. It's called the "king of fruits" in southeast Asia. One reason is because it can grow to weigh up to 7 pounds, or more (See attached image).

Eggfruit: Like "breadfruit," here's another fruit aptly named, because its flesh has the same consistency when cutting or biting into it as a hard-boiled egg. Though, it tastes like a maple syrup sweet potato.

Finger Lime: This rather interesting fruit has only recently started gaining popularity. According to Wikipedia, the finger lime fruit originates in Australia. It's being sold in restaurants now for use as a garnish and in recipes. Some persons are calling it a "caviar lime." Likewise, other persons consider it a gourmet bushfood.

What I find interesting about this particular fruit I chose to include in this fruit alphabetical list, list of fruits, facts about fruit and fruit names, is it is considered the most colorful of all citrus fruits: not only does it grow green but pink, yellow, orange, red, purple, black and brown.
