Fruit baskets are a gift that most people will actually use, especially when you design it around their taste and personality. This safe gift does not have to be boring. Fruits can be coupled with many other items to send the message that this was planned specifically with the gift receiver in mind. A fruit basket is so versatile that it can be used as a gift for almost any occasion. Look to the hobbies, sports and careers of the individual you are creating this gift for to get ideas on what to add that will make this a personal gift.
For the person who loves their frozen drinks
Use a large ice bucket instead of a traditional basket for the frozen-drink lover. Stand a small bottle of rum or vodka in the center and surround it with strawberries, blueberries and raspberries in small packages. Add some novelty swizzle sticks and straws, along with a hand full of drink umbrellas for the inside of this basket. Include a few recipes for frozen berry drinks that you pull off line and print out on index cards. This gift needs two tall stemmed hurricane glasses, which need to be wrapped in bubble wrap. The glasses are attached to the outside of the bucket with a small thin bungee cord wrapped around the perimeter of the bucket. Wrap the entire gift basket in one large sheet of bubble wrap, pulling all the ends together over the top of the bucket and securing them together with a tight piece of ribbon tied into a bow.
For the Newlyweds
Start with a laundry basket as the container to use for a housewarming fruit basket for a new bride. This basket can lined with new dish towels that drape out of the top of the basket. Fill the basket with the basic apples, oranges, peaches, pears, bananas and a pineapple. Put a recipe for each fruit in the basket, such as banana bread, apple pie, peach cobbler and pineapple upside down cake. Add all the spices needed to make these recipes in with the basket. The cake pans can also be included in this gift for the newlywed. Use brightly colored cellophane to wrap this large basket up, pulling the loose ends all to the top of the basket and tie them off in a bow.
For the person who loves their kitchen:
For the person who loves to spend time in the kitchen start off with a large colander in lieu of a wicker basket and line this with a set of designer dish towels, for rinsing and drying the fruit. Add oranges, lemons, and limes, which are used for their zest when baking. Include the utensils that peel and grate the zest of these fruits. A small glass hand juicer, which can be used to make juice from these fruits, will make sure nothing goes to waste. Two juice glasses, along with a small box of sugar cubes, will give the baker the makings for lemonade or limeade for a refreshing drink while working in a hot kitchen. This fruit gift basket can be wrapped in bright yellow cellophane with an orange or green bow on top to accentuate the colors of the citrus fruit included in this basket.
