Fruit Facial at Home

A Natural Pamper Session from Start to Finish

Laura Leiva
You know that eating fruit is healthy for your skin, so applying it to your face during an at-home spa session seems like a beneficial way to purify and cleanse the skin. Doing a facial at least once a month cleans out pores and moisturizes skin, not to mention how great it feels to be pampered. To do a fruit facial at home using fresh produce, check out the following steps:

Exfoliate

To remove dead skin cells, you want to use a fruit that contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), which exfoliate and smooth the skin. One fruit that has these properties is mango. Take ¼ of the mango and place it in a blender with ½ teaspoon of orange juice. Puree for 10 seconds in a blender, and then apply it to the face for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Cleanse

Cleansing the skin during a facial is important to remove oil and dirt from the pores. Strawberries are a good choice for cleansing because they deep cleanse pores, and the little seeds work well to scrub the nose, forehead and chin area. To make a cleansing mask, add a cup of fresh strawberries to ½ cup of cornstarch and mash together in a bowl. Apply the mask to the forehead, nose and chin since pores are more prone to oil and dirt there. Rinse off after 20 minutes with warm water.

Moisturize

The oil in bananas make a perfect moisturizing mask, and when honey is added so are the benefits. Banana is also suitable for any skin type, so even if it's oily, the banana will remove excess oil and add moisture to the skins surface. Make a hydrating mask by mashing up a ripe banana and tablespoon of honey in a small bowl, and applying to the face for 15 minutes. Rinse with a warm washcloth.

After you are done with your facial, apply your favorite cream to the face. Give yourself a facial at least once a month to keep it fresh and clean, and always use a sunscreen in either a daily lotion or cosmetic foundation to reduce the chance of getting fine lines and wrinkles. Drinking plenty of water everyday will also keep skin hydrated, soft and clear.
