When you want highlights in your hair, but you're not so into having to maintain your highlights or watching them grow out (resulting in those unattractive roots), then consider temporary highlights using fruit juice or even coffee to achieve a lovely highlight that will be subtle, luxurious, and won't damage your hair! There are a few certain juices that can help you obtain the hue you want without permanently dyeing your hair, and leave you with brighter, more vibrant hair!
If you are a brunette and you just want more of a reddish highlight to your hair, then consider a few fruit juice options for dyeing your hair with. I prefer cranberry, pomegranate, and beet juices to obtain an auburn look for my hair. Simply wash your hair (don't condition) as normal to wash out all the oils and product in your hair, then blow-dry. Then, rinse your hair in the red, non-diluted fruit juice of your choice and wrap your hair in a towel. Allow your hair to air-dry (preferably in the sun to "set" the color) then once dry, rinse out the temporary juice color to have beautiful red highlights for a few days to a week. This method works great for redheads as well, who want to bring out their natural red locks and make them look more vibrant.
If you want your brown hair to look shinier and deeper in color, follow the above instructions, only with cold coffee. The stronger brew, the better to deep-set a natural deep brown hue into your locks. This method is great if you have dull brown hair, or lighter brown hair and you want some darker highlights. I wouldn't recommend this method for blondes (it washes out the natural blonde and results in a "dirty dishwater" look) or redheads (unless you have a chestnut or brown tint to your hair). This is a great way to really bring out your brown hair without it looking black.
For blondes, bring out your golden locks with orange juice rather than lemon juice. The reason for this is because while lemon juice works great for creating permanent highlights by naturally bleaching the hair, if you want a more subtle look, go for orange juice, which will still have that citrus shine boost without bleaching out all your blonde. If you allow your hair to dry in the sun then rinse out the orange juice, then your blonde hair will be naturally more shiny and luxurious, without the obvious streaks.
You can follow any of these natural highlight remedies via blow-drying the juice (or coffee) in your hair, then rinsing to set, for a darker, more noticeable highlight or color change. If you want a more subtle hair color boost, however, simply allow your hair to dry and set on its own, allowing the sun to choose the highlights for you. It all depends on how dramatic you want your hair color to look, and your results can last anywhere from a few days to a week. Since the highlights are natural, you can repeat the process as often as you like, without worrying about permanently damaging your hair.
