Fruit Trees

Fruit Trees. If you have a little space there are all kinds of fruit trees you can plant. Different areas of the country (United States of America) and foreign countries require different kinds and varieties of fruit trees. This article concentrates only on trees, not on vines or bushes that some fruits grow on.

Apple Trees
Avocado Trees
Banana Trees
Cherry Trees
Fig Trees
Grapefruit Trees
Lemon Trees, including Meyers Lemon
Lime Trees
Peach Trees
Pear Trees
Pineapple Trees
Plum Trees

If you are in South Central Texas (Austin and surrounding areas) you need to first bare root (or buy it that way).your tree. Dig your hole and do not mix mulch or fertilizer into the hole.

Do not dig the hole deeper than the top of the root-ball. The root flare (where the roots meet the tree) should be exposed.

Do not dig a round hole. Trees often come in round containers, if you dig a round hole in the ground it is possible that the roots will encircle the tree over and over, in effect, choking itself to death. Make your hole square to encourage the roots to spread out.

If it does not rain, water daily for the first 2 to 3 years. That it appears to be is when a tree becomes established. About 100 gallons per month. If you are on water restrictions there are these things (looks like plastic bags to me) that are called Mylar bags. These bags hold 20 gallons of water. You use them by wrapping them around the base of the tree and let the water drip out slowly.

Mulch and compost should help your trees, but them on top of the ground near but not at the base of the tree. When you do normal watering water at the drip-line. The drip-line is at the end of the branches.

Fruits are healthy and nothing on God's green earth is healthier than fresh fruits and vegetables right from your own back yard. Just imagine going to your yard and picking a fresh ripe apple or pear from your very own fruit tree. Delicious too. Umm
