If you are a big fan of sports bars and live in Tucson, then you will love the Ft. Lowell Depot, or as it is known to locals, "the depot." At first glance this place looks like one of those places hardcore bikers usually frequent. The bar was actually found by accident one night. I was tired of all the crowded college bars and needed a change of pace. People usually head down to the bars and such on 4th avenue as that is where the night life usually booms in Tucson. However the older generation of bar-goers has a tendency to seek places off the beaten path.

When you first get there it is a bit intimidating as the bar literally crawls with regulars. It is almost like a tight knit club where most people know each other and outsiders are left to mingle amongst themselves. Not too bad if you go with friends.

The one thing that got me was the sheer size of the place and the amount of things that you can do. Of course consuming alcohol is usually at the top of the list, but get there on any given night and you have a wide array of things to do. There are several big screen televisions that carry all of the major sporting events and of course ESPN. One of the televisions is dedicated to trivia games which you can get a hand held controller for and play against others in the bar and across the country. In the same room you can also pick up the microphone and belt out your favorite karaoke hits.

Head on over to the other side of the bar and you can play pool at one of the many tables or play darts. There are also video games and a jukebox as well. There are tons of tables, but on a crowded night you may have to get in line and wait for one. If you don't want to you can just head out to the patio and have some drinks there.

One of the other great things is the food there. I highly recommend the skinny fries and chicken wings. Don't be fooled by outward appearances. The depot is definitely a great spot to kick back with friends and have a few beers. The prices are great, the food is great and the service is awesome. If you get the chance to, head on down and see for yourself.

Women beware. My friend thought her husband was sick in the bathroom so she openned the door to call to him and the bouncer rushed up, yanked on her arm and jerked her away from the doorway. When she said "I think my husband is sick", he said, "I don't care, get out of my bar and your husband is kicked out, too." While my friends were waiting on the cab, I walked inside the door to the ATM and heard the bouncer and his friend saying "Man, I would haver paid you $20 to search her." What jerks! After man-handling my friend and then leering about her, they think they are running a safe establishment?? Women beware, the bouncers (and manager for that matter, because he was watching the whole time) are out for personal gratification. Stay away from this bar or your might get assualted by some idiot bouncer and manager who think every patron is ripe for abuse.
