Full Coverage Vs. Liability Coverage

Amy Stepp
Lets face it, auto insurance can be a real annoyance when it comes to knowing what coverage is best for you. Some people will tell you to stick with Full Coverage insurance because it is better to have it all when you are in an accident. Others will tell you that Liability Coverage is the only insurance you will need if you are trying to save money. I am here to lay out a short guide that explains the definition of both and then hopefully you will be able to decide which insurance coverage is right for you.

Full Coverage Insurance:

Basically this just means just what it says. Full coverage auto insurance is for people who want to make sure in case of any accident, their fault or caused by someone else every part of the process will be covered by their auto insurance company.

Full Coverage insurance is actually broken down into two different terms. The first term is Comprehensive insurance which basically means that if any type of damage is done to your automobile other then another actual vehicle then you will be covered. For example, I had a best friend that worked at an insurance claim center. She had a call one night that the person was hit by a deer. This type of accident will fall into Comprehensive Insurance. The next term under Full Coverage insurance is called Collision Coverage insurance and basically it states that you are fully covered in any accident with another vehicle whether or not it was your fault or theirs.

Full Coverage Insurance is best suitable for anyone who still is paying on their automobile. All finance companies require this type of coverage if you are still forking out money on your car. If you have already paid for your vehicle, I would suggest to see what your company offers with Full Coverage. If you have a teen driver in the home or anyone older then 75 who still is driving, then stick with Full Coverage Insurance. If you are a safe, wreck-less driver, then perhaps you need to switch to the nest coverage.

Liability Coverage Insurance:

This insurance coverage only insures you, the driver in any automobile accident. For example, if you were to hit someone while driving this insurance will cover all the needs that the driver has to themselves, their property and their car. However, it will not cover any cost on your vehicle, whether or not you hit the driver or someone else hits you. Like I stated above in the Full Coverage description, this auto insurance is only recommended for those who have a safe, clean driving record and who own their vehicles out right.

With either Full Coverage or Liability Coverage insurance, you need to check with a insurance company in your state for their all their requirements. Each state holds a different full meaning of both of these terms.
