Full Day Family Picnic at Ganpatpura Farm House Near the City of Vadodara in India

Whenever we visit India, we make sure to take up many outings near the city of Vadodara in Gujarat State in India. One such most beautiful and exquisite place for a one day outing near the city of Vadodara is Ganpatpura, a small village in the South of the town of Por around 20 miles away from the city of Vadodara. If you are a nature lover and are interested in experiencing the village life of India, you must make sure to visit this small village farm to enjoy. There is a big farm house, owned by the local villager, here at Ganpatpura. The owner has developed this place as the most beautiful picnic spot, particularly during the winter months from November to February. This farm house remains closed during the summer months of March to October.

If you want to enjoy a one day picnic close to nature, this farm house is the ideal place for you. We had visited this farm house during our last visit to India in winter of year 2007. We were a group of around 40 people and traveled from Vadodara by a hired luxury bus for the full day. The charges of such 44 sitter luxury buses are around Rs.2000 ($50) for 12 hours with 80 miles of free travel. We started at 7 am and reached this farm house by around 8.30 am. As soon as we reached there, the owner and his family gave us a warm welcome and offered us nice hot tea/coffee with the snack of onion, Potato, and the Methi rings. Such hot items in the cold winter morning really charged us to full energy level. We started playing various outdoor Indian games like Kho-Kho, Kabadi, and trees climbing. The games like cricket, and Volleyball also were tried by some of us. The elders of the group started taking long walks in the adjoining farms that grow tomatoes, corns, green peas, sugar canes, bananas, guava, Gujarati bors, and Goras Amli. We tasted all these delicious items directly from the trees while taking slow and leisurely walks. There is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva just opposite to this farm. The main attraction of this picnic lunch is the Pounk, which is a special Gujarati food delicacy, and served with the chilly and salty items like Bhujia. Pounk is a mixture of wheat and the Juvar and is naturally very sweet and tasty. The lunch call came at around 12 noon and we all were served the items like Pounk, Udhiyun (mixture of all vegetables like potatoes, sweet potatoes, Papdi Dana, Brinjals, and Bananas cooked in an earthen container by providing external heat all around it by placing the earthen container deep in the soil). The sweet/sour lassie and other items like Puris, spicy chutneys, were also served in the lunch. The special hot Jalebis prepared in front of us were served as the desert in the end.

We had never got such deluxe luxury meal since ages and that is why we could enjoy it immensely. The lunch made us all little lazy and we all set down in an open farm and started playing musical games like Antaxari. Some senior and elderly persons even took a nap in an open farm in the lap of sweet nature. The afternoon tea/coffee call came at around 4 pm. The tasty Pounk Vada cooked with pure Ghee and the Pounk Danas were served in the snack. This item is extremely famous in Gujarat State. These Vadas are quiet spicy and hot, having lots of Chilies. After enjoying this lavish afternoon snack, we started preparing for our return journey to Vadodara city. We started back at around 5.30 pm and reached the city of Vadodara by around 6.30 pm. Our group is still not able to forget this unique visit close to nature even today and is sure to visit it again during our next visit to India.
