According to Anime News Network, a new Full Metal Alchemist series has been officially announced and is to premiere on Japanese TV in April of 2009. Not only that, but the official website for the series has posted a teaser trailer in Japanese showing the two main characters of the first series Edward and Alphonse Elric. It has also been announced that Yasuhiro Irie is the director of the new series.

More information on the series is apparently going to be disclosed in Shonen Gangan, Square Enix's monthly magazine. Surely fans of the series remember the storyline well, as the coming of the second Full Metal Alchemist series has been long awaited by many. The series has won various anime awards all over the world and has been voted the greatest anime of all time on a Japanese website.

In the first series, the story follows the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric while they try to uncover the secrets of the mythical philosophers stone. The reason behind their search is due to the fact they their mother passed away and in attempt to bring her back to life through alchemy Edward lost an arm and a leg, and his brother Alphonse lost his entire body and had his soul placed in a body of armor.

While in search of the philosopher's stone, the Elric brothers undercover a conspiracy of hidden cities, mythical monsters, and even dimensional travel. So as you can guess, the story gets very interesting and is arguably one of the greatest anime series of all time. It will be interesting to find out what the new Full Metal Alchemist's storyline will be, seeing as the first series and the movie Conquers of Shamballa wrapped up the story; or so it seemed.

Be ready for more Full Metal Alchemist anime news coming up soon!
