Full Trailer for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' Is Now Online

The "Harry Potter" franchise first appeared on the big screen ten years ago. Since then it's become one of the most successful and popular film series ever made. If nothing else it's certainly one of the most ambitious. With the eighth and final film in the series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," arriving in theaters this July, Warner Brothers has released full trailer on Youtube. There had been a teaser trailer previously but this new and much more in depth trailer gives a far more complete picture of the final confrontation between Harry (played by Daniel Radcliffe) and the dark wizard Voldemort (portrayed by Ralph Fienes.)

The trailer opens with a mix of images, some from the new film and some from earlier entries. Over these images the well known theme music plays. The music has a sound to it as if being played by a slightly out of tune music box that is winding down. This lends an eerie sense to the trailer right from the start. From here the trailer makes two things very clear: firstly that this will be a very dark and intense film and secondly that the Voldemort and Harry showdown is the most important thing. Various other characters are seen, with some special attention given to Snape (played by Alan Rickman,) but the trailer keeps coming back to Voldemort and Harry battling it out with each other. There's also some nice money shots of a dragon and what looks to be a massive assault on Hogwarts thrown in for good measure

The most striking moment of the trailer is actually one that does not occur in the book. As the trailer reaches a climax Harry is face to face with Voldemort atop a tower at Hogwarts. Harry tells Voldemort that they should end this the way it they started it: "together." With that Harry grabs Voldemort and jumps from tower, pulling the Dark Lord down with him. This combined with imagery of the two battling across several different settings makes it clear that the film has beefed up the actual final confrontation between the hero and the villain. In the book the moment was intense, but brief. Here it looks like the film will milk the battle for everything that it's worth.

With "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1" having covered close to two thirds of the novel it's not surprising that the battle scenes would be done in greater detail than they were on the page. To give the conclusion to this series the epic send off that fans are hoping for the action was going to have to be enhanced. Battle scenes in the book were short and perfunctory: they got the job done and moved on. Here it is clear that the intention is to make the combat a central pillar of the film. This approach may worry some fans, but it should be remembered that the "Lord of the Rings" films did a similar enhancing of battle and action scenes to great effect.

One final thing worth noting is that at the end of the trailer it announces that the film will be in 3D. It had originally been intended that "Part 1" be released in 3D as well, however those plans were scrapped a few months before the release of that film. At the time Warner Brothers claimed that they felt there was not enough time to do the job properly before "Part 1" hit theaters. Likely they were still feeling the backlash against the rushed 3D conversion that was done to their 2010 release of "Clash of the Titans." However they've had much more time to do the 3D conversion work on "Part 2" and seem confident in releasing it in that format. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" arrives in theaters on July 15th.
