Full-figured Women: Tips for Finding Attractive & Supportive Bras

Stacy J. Day
If you're a full-figured woman like I am, chances are you've had trouble finding bras that not only fit well and provide enough support, but that also make you look and feel attractive. For years I have searched and searched for attractive bras like my sister wears, but since she was blessed not to be "full-figured" or "queen-sized like I am," she can find all the attractive bras that she wants. I love to shop for bras and other lingerie for her, but I wanted to enjoy shopping for myself as well. I was tired of only finding unattractive bras in boring colors that looked more appropriate for women in their eighties. After years of research, however, I have discovered that women with fuller figures can wear bras that are just as attractive as smaller women, and without sacrificing the support that we desperately need.

Don't shop at Walmart - I shop at Walmart and similar stores on a regular basis for almost everything except bras. Shopping at stores like Walmart, Kmart and Target is a big mistake when you're looking for the perfect fitting yet trendy full-figured bra. Sure these stores have Just My Size bras and other full-figured clothing lines, but they often aren't very attractive, and if you require a larger size, these types of stores simply don't carry these sizes.

Get properly fitted - According to Tracy M. Pfeifer, a New York plastic surgeon, as many as 80% of women wear the wrong size bra. Bra World, if there's one in your area, is a great place to receive a professional fitting. This is absolutely free of charge, and it only takes a minute or two to be fitted. There is a store in almost every area that provides bra fittings if you don't live near a Bra World.

Don't remove the tags right away - Unless you've purchased your new bras from a store where you were actually able to try them on, make sure you don't remove the tags right away. Most stores and websites will accept returns and or exchanges if the bra is placed back in its original packaging and contains all the tags that it came with. All bras are made differently, just like clothes and shoes, and you may purchase a bra in which you believe is the correct size, but due to variations in patterns, it may actually be too large or too small.

Expect to spend more money - Everyone loves a good sale and great prices, but when it comes to buying the perfect full-figured bra that fits just right and looks awesome, you might just have to dig in your wallets a little deeper and come up with more money. In the long run, you'll realize that it's worth it, although you may not feel that way at the time.

Think Specialty or Large Department Stores- Some great stores to shop at for fashionable and great fitting full-figure bras are JC Penney, Lane Bryant, Woman Within, Catherine's and Ashley Stewart, just to name a few. And of course Bra World is a spectacular place to shop at too.

More generic commenting so I can get to work at 8am tomorrow, make phone calls, and do more stuff that means I can't even do crossword puzzles during the times my supervisors have no work for me to do. *sigh* Yay? At least I'm getting paid.
