Fulton Mall Gets Major Retailers

Anyone who frequents the Fulton Mall knows that shopping can get a little boring with limited stores to satiate the hunger to spend. This week, the mall took a big step in announcing that the old Strawberry building's ground floor would soon be occupied by a Filene's Basement.

Filene's Basement is an off-shoot of the Macy's of Boston and draws a lot of deal-seeking fashionistas. The store plans to open in 2012.

The mall's announcement of its newest store comes shortly after the storefront on Fulton Street was scooped up by Crown Acquisitions for $60 million. The building is a vaulted five-story haven for retailers in an ideal location.

With the insertion of Filene's Basement, it looks like the Fulton Mall will soon become a high-class shopping destination filled with other swanky retailers. This is what urban renewal is all about. We can see it happening quite quickly as Aeropostale and H&M have also opened up near the soon-to-be Filene's location in Albee Square.
