Fun ABC Art Activity for Baby & More

Inspiration for Your Young Picasso

Sabrina Young
Enjoy a wonderful time of creativity and fun with these great art activities for you and baby. Inspire creativity in your young Picasso or Monet and make wonderfully artistic memories! Even older children can join in the fun with you and baby for a great family artistic experience.

Finger painting Fun
Although this is a bit messy, your baby will enjoy experimenting with fun finger paints. Try to do this project in an area that you don't mind a mess, like outdoors or the patio. Lay down plastic bags or old towels underneath the baby's high chair and have plenty of wipes handy. Place your baby in the chair wearing only a diaper or an old onesie.

Place a piece of paper on the high chair tray. Slowly introduce one color at a time to your baby. Be sure to use non-toxic washable paint. (I love using Crayola paints. They wash off in no time!) Enjoy watching your baby explore the feel of the paint.

Whipped Cream Sculpture
Place your baby in his or her high chair, wearing only a diaper and bib. You may want to line the floor with towels in case any whipped cream ends up on the floor. Put a glob of whipped cream on the baby's tray (be sure to clean the tray thoroughly first). Let your baby make a fun and sweet mess with the whipped cream. Your baby may not be Michelangelo, but she will definitely love creating her own goopy sculpture out of the whipped cream. Join in the fun and make your own deliciously artistic creation.

Ice Watercolors
Fill an ice tray with water. Place a few drops of food coloring in each section. (Blue, red, and green work best for this project.) Put the ice tray in the freezer. Place your baby in his high chair or at a table if she can sit up. Get a thick sheet of white art paper and place it in front of your baby. Let the baby "watercolor" with the ice cubes. You can use this opportunity to teach your baby about the words "cold" and "melt" as the ice slowly becomes water. You may need to change out the art paper a few times. Let the pictures dry in the sun, then hang them in baby's room or the fridge.

ABC Block Painting
Pour a little bit of washable non-toxic paint onto a paper plate. You may want to use two or three colors. Dip the ABC blocks in the paint and place them on the paper. There should be an imprint of the letter on the paper. Allow your child to experiment with the blocks. See if she can imitate you. The important thing is that your baby has fun. As always, have a box of wipes handy for those artistic messy hands!
