Nearly everyone knows this one but I just had to include it because it is such a good place to spend an evening. Every year after Thanksgiving the city of San Jose erects a huge display of decorated christmas trees and crafted art scenes in Caesar Chavez Park. In addition to scenery in the park there are numerous shops, vendors, and carnival type rides set up along the paseo de san antonio entrance and san antonio street. Also, by the San Jose Museum of Art, there is an ice rink set up for those that really want to get into the holiday spirit. Although the ice skating and rides cost money, viewing Christmas in the Park is totally free so you dont have to feel guilty for splurging on some kettle corn and hot chocolate.
Nearly everyone knows about Christmas in the Park but one thing that a lot of people miss is the chance to see is First Fridays. Located about two blocks south of Christmas in the park, in the SoFA district of downtown San Jose, First Fridays offers a chance for the public to view current exhibits for free. Many of the galleries offer reasonably priced snacks and drinks to go along with the exhibits so don't worry about eating a big dinner beforhand. Check the website (linked above) for more information on the next show.
3. San Jose Sharks @ the Shark Tank
Speaking of art and ice skating, the San Jose Sharks are on fire this season and attending home game will give you a perfect opportunity to see them paint a canvas of victory. The Shark Tank (or Hp Pavillion if you want to get technical) seats just over seventeen thousand people but you would never guess guess it because it seems so small. Countless people have said that there isnt a bad seat in the place cause even in the 'nose bleed' sections yuo can still see the hits and fights as if they were on a high definition TV. Even if you are not a fan hockey its hard not to appreciate all the effects created by the a/v crew because they really get the crowd pumped up (as if they need to! Just witnessing a big check gets a big "OHHHH!" from the crowd). Also, there is a plethora of food and snack bars and tons of extra attractions; if you have tickets on the lower deck then you have access to the club level with even more. Check out their website for tickets and the season schedule.
As a San Jose local, I am always looking for more to do and review. So, if you have some ideas or suggestions please contact me through Associated Content or my website.
