Fun Activities to Do with Your Two-Year-Old

A Guide to Enjoying Motherhood

Everyone knows being the parent of a two year old is rather challenging to say the least. Boundless energy, and emotions that change every time the wind blows are key symptoms of the terrible two stage. Also if your house is frequently torn apart and you cant keep items in your cupboards, there is no denying it either. So what's a mom or dad to do? Find an activity and quick!

My son just loves being read to. He'll grab a book and bring it over for me to read, anything, Dr. Seuss, something about farms or tractors or trucks. So far he hasn't looked at many books he doesn't like and we're very thrilled about that, however, reading three or four in a row can get tiring so it's then that we distract him by playing a more active game like, ring around the rosy or something like that.

Also fresh air is wonderful for a kid. I think it's beneficial to get outdoors and let your twoster run, skip and explore for at least 15 minutes twice a day. Take a walk, go to a nearby park or to a zoo perhaps. Ideally having a play area set aside in your own yard would be best. My son helps me every day do farm chores by carrying a small pail of oats to the animals.

Create fun and silly games together. My husband will actually get down on his hands and knees and play "bully" with our son. They beller and paw and pretend to butt heads just like real bulls do, but not too hard of course. Yes it's very silly, but he absolutely loves it! Making time for them by doing funny faces, coloring, singing or rolling a ball really means a lot to your little one and is fun for parents.

So having a two year old does mean saying "No" a lot and keeping constant vigil on them, but learn to enjoy what a humorous, creative and energetic individual you have because before long, they'll be a teenager and you'll want all of this back.

I live on some beautiful midwestern farmland with my husband and young children. We have Appaloosa horses and beef cattle. I really enjoy country life and writing.  View profile

Taking your child out to run around is a great way to burn off excess energy so they will perhaps take a nap.
