Fun Alternatives From the Norm for Dates In The Summer

Rebecca Green
If the standard dinner, movie or bar/pub doesn't tickle your fancy as an idea of a keen date, there is no reason to feel dismal and uncertain of what to do. There are some fun alternatives available almost everywhere you go, especially in warmer months when you don't have to feel restricted to limited and indoor restricted activities.

Nature Trails

Taking a walk down a nature trail can give you a good idea of a person, mainly because you can talk, stroll, take your time and just be in a pleasant and beautiful atmosphere. Depending on the duration of the walk and what's available, you can also sit, relax or even have an intimate picnic off the trail if a small field is available. Nothing is better on a date than being able to communicate. IN this sort of environment, it's perfect. Hopefully there aren't that many people going along it so you can talk, but, if there are, hopefully they aren't strolling at the same pace you and your date are. Most people don't mind seeing a couple hand in hand or arm in arm walking together on trails. I've personally never felt offended when I saw a couple a ways up pause in the middle of the path and steal a kiss.

Parks

State parks can be an adventure for a date. If you go when it's still warm and leaves have just started to turn, it can also become a very breathtaking place to stroll around in. This idea is also perfect for a picnic for two and often times is more private than taking your date to a city park. However, if you are in, say, Central Park, it can be a lovely date just the same. However, if the weather is too warm for early fall, then it can be a very 'eden-like' retreat for the two of you to talk, cuddle and have a relaxing time out in fresh air. Also, out in state parks you can throw balls or even have kites. Just because you aren't a child anymore doesn't mean that you can't have a little fun now and then. Also if you or your date happens to be a musician (such as a guitar as a prime example) be sure to bring it. After all, it is a date and some girls and guys get taken away by musicians. It also shows that you can feel comfortable as yourself around someone else. This is an important part of a relationship. Being able to be oneself.

Museums

Museums are not as drab as everyone has made them out to be. In fact, being in places with such magnificent pieces of art and artifacts of long ago can be both inspiring and romantic. It also gives a good idea if your date is intellecutal and appreciative of art and or history. This is especially a hit if your date is an artist. It's little things like this that make your date feel special. Even better, most museums are somewhat quiet, even with the occasional school group that passes through. Some of those pieces and artifacts can give you excellent conversation, especially if you happen to stumble into an Egyptian exhibit and discover both of you are intrigued by their means of mummification, for example. Museums are excellent places to discover common interests and even learn something new.

Drive-In's

Drive-In's are very popular in the summer- especially if you can find one you live close to. Mainly because they're cheap for the most part and a double feature. There's nothing 'normal' about a night at the drive-in. They seem to turn into some sort of adventure in one way or another. Not only do you get to cuddle close to someone either in a car or underneath a hopefully starry night sky, you get the chance to bump into friends also there along with watch (and sometimes participate in) games up in the front lawn in front of the screen - provided there isn't a playground set up there. They can get rather romantic, too, especially if it gets JUST chilly enough where you have to wrap a blanket around both yourself and your date. Even better, where else can you get out to see two movies, have pizza, fries, share a soda or munch on candy and hot dogs and not be cooped up at home? There's just something about a drive-in that can't be replaced. It's a place every person should get to experience, definitely.

Carnivals

Going to at least one fair or carnival in the summer should be a staple of life. These are fun alone, however, with dates you can have even more fun than normal. Not only can you try to win your date a cute stuffed animal, but, you can act like kids again and try different rides, pig out on delicious carnival food and if you're lucky - catch a firework show at dusk. One fun aspect of these kind of dates are the carnival workers. They, alone can be quite the entertainment. Some of them are just so strange and amusing that you can't help but find yourself drawn to them on occasion. If the carnival happens to be at a state or county fair, there are craft stalls to browse too, along with what seems to be a neverending supply of different farm animals that are to be judged for competitions.

No matter what you or your date are into, just know that you don't always have to go for the 'tried and true' methods. Someone once said "variety is the spice of life" and they weren't kidding. Get out - do and explore new surroundings and no doubt you and your date will never be bored.

There are less than 200 old-fashioned Drive-In's remaining in the US, with that number diminishing each year.
