If you have kids, what do they do at your annual New Year's Eve party? Do you have fun, athletic activities for them or do they just sit around waiting for the ball to drop? Watching adults make fools of themselves gets boring after an hour or so. Why not make New Year's Eve just as much fun for the kids as for the adults? What are some fun active things kids can do at your New Year's Eve party?
Play Twister with the kids at your New Year's Eve Party. What kid doesn't love twister? Even teens get into this crazy game. Plus, it's a great way to stay limber. It's way more fun if the adults join in. Don't think so? Imagine Uncle Frank tied up in knots, frantically reaching for the red circle with his left foot. Now that I think about it, you should play Twister even if the kids aren't invited.
Why not have a New Year's hula hoop contest? It's certainly an athletic activity. Kids are admittedly superior in this department. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. If you were a hula hoop champion back in the day, by all means challenge your kids. Won't it be fun to see the looks on their faces when you outlast them? What about watching those who can't make one full circle? No teasing allowed.
Play, "I bet I can outlast you!". What is this? Well, it's pretty simple. Kids get up in front of the room on New Years Eve and issue the challenge, "I bet I can outlast you at ____". They fill in the blank with jumping jacks, headstands, standing on one leg, or some other activity requiring athletic prowess. Someone accepts the challenge and the contest begins. The winner issues another challenge. Play continues until everyone has had a turn or the game gets old.
Got tween and teen girls? Got a Karaoke machine? They're pretty inexpensive and keep kids busy for hours on New Years. Not only that, they'll burn calories like crazy. If you don't have one, try renting or borrowing. The boys have fun with them too. In fact, everyone at the party can join this activity. It's not just for the kids. Plus, it's another way for adults to give the kids a good laugh.
Crank up the stereo and have a dance contest. Don't expect to keep up with your kids and their awesome pop n lock moves. Even the competition by throwing on some old school music. Surely you remember the electric slide. Gram and Gramp can get in the game with the twist or mashed potato. It's not really about who wins anyway. It's all about kids having fun and keeping active on New Years.
