Fun Christmas Ornament Crafts for Children

Megan Butler
Christmas is a great time for crafts. They bring the family together, and create warm Christmas memories that will last much longer than the presents. These are some of the Christmas ornament crafts that my kids have the most fun making.

Candy Cane Reindeer

This was my favorite Christmas ornament craft as a kid. Hopefully your children will enjoy it just as much.

What You'll Need (which you can get at your local craft store):

Wrapped Candy Canes

Small red pom poms

Wiggle eyes

Green ribbon

Brown pipe cleaners

Craft glue

Step 1:

Leave the wrapper on the candy cane and glue one eye to either side of the rounded portion of the candy cane (close to the sort side).

Step 2:

Glue the red pom pom to the front end of the tip of the short side of the candy cane.

Step 3:

Cut a portion of the ribbon and tie it around the neck of the reindeer (somewhere along the long side).

Step 4:

Cut one pipe cleaner in half and wrap it around the crook of the candy cane so that both ends of the pipe cleaner face up like antlers. Bend them into antler shape.

Step 5:

Hang Rudolph on the tree by his bow, and try not to eat him until Christmas!

Christmas Stars

What You'll Need (which you can get at your local craft store):

Craft sticks

Craft Glue

Rhinestones, beads, buttons, etc.

String

Step 1:

Glue the craft sticks together in a star pattern. Astrix, or easy draw, its up to you. Depending on the age of the children, you may want to do steps one and two before they get involved.

Step 2:

Cut a piece of string and glue it to the back of one of the points of your star so that it can hang from the tree.

Step 3:

Decorate the stars. Your imagination is really the limit. You can make glitter stars, button stars, sticker stars. Search your local craft store for some fun additions and let the little ones go wild.

Pipe Cleaner Christmas Tree

What You'll Need (which you can get at your local craft store):

Green pipe cleaners

Red beads

Green yarn

Silver or Gold star buttons

Step 1:

Take your red beads and thread them on the pipe cleaner so that they are about one inch apart all down the length of the pipe cleaner.

Step 2:

Bend the pipe cleaner in on itself so that you end up with a zig zag pattern that gets narrower at the top like a Christmas tree. As a matter of fact, it should be triangular just like a Christmas tree.

Step 3:

Thread the tip of your pipe cleaner through your star button. Bend the end of the pipe cleaner down to make sure that the button is secure (if you don¡¦t want to use buttons, you could glue paper stars to the top of your tree).

Step 4:

Tie your green yarn to the top of your pipe cleaner Christmas tree so you can hang it up.
