Assorted Cookie Platter:
This has to be the easiest and the most fun to make for people. You can either make cookies from scratch (as my grandmother and I prefer) or you can use the cookie packs that require you to add just an egg and water, or something like that (which my mother prefers, and you can buy for just $1 each). In order to make the cookies a little more Christmasy, feel free to buy Christmas cookie cutters (they can be found for $10 and under depending on how many you want--$10 is for 18 cookie cutters and single ones are 99 cents) and add sprinkles for that extra bit of holiday cheer. You can even buy holiday paper plates (which is what my grandmother always uses). Regardless of exactly how you decide to do it, just bake several types of cookies, arrange them nicely on a plate, and cover with plastic wrap (if you want to get really fancy, you can buy either green or red plastic wrap and add a bow on top), and there you have a nice formal Christmas gift that can be a great icebreaker with the neighbors. This is the Christmas gift my grandparents used to meet their former neighbors, and it's the one my boyfriend and I will be using to meet our new neighbors.
Cookie Scented Candles:
For those cookie lovers that adore cookies but shy away from the added calories (like myself), these candles produce all the calming effects of the wonderful smell of freshly baked cookies without having to worry about gaining the extra pounds. What could possibly be better than that? They come in a variety of different scents, including gingerbread, and can be bought for $5 or less at most department stores, such as Walmart and Kmart.
Gingerbread Cookie Kit:
If there are some creative people on your list, or you're looking to spend quality time with someone, this kit is a great way to go. Most children and adults will love being able to create their own personalized gingerbread man, and this is a great way to spend time with people you might not get to spend time with, especially grandchildren and such that might not always enjoy doing things you enjoy doing. They can be bought for $10 at most department stores.
Christmas Cookie Jars:
There are a lot of these and they come in all shapes and sizes, but it's a really cute gift to get. Even better, if there are children you're buying for then these can be a fun, unique way to leave cookies out for Santa. here is an example of a Santa one that can be found at Walmart and here is a cute Christmas tree one you can also find at Walmart.
Danish Butter Cookie Tins:
I've seen these used as Christmas gifts quite often. My family, personally, isn't really in the habit of giving them (like I said, we bake our own), but I know a lot of people that do like to use them and a lot of people really enjoy collecting their tins, or at least can reuse them, which is pretty handy. They're not too expensive, either, tending to be under $10. If you're not sure exactly what I'm talking about, here is one from Kmart.
