1) Romeo and Juliet
Who doesn't remember the timeless love of two youths, Romeo and Juliet, who feel they were meant for each other in spite of the family bickering between their parents. What's fun about this is it's classic, but also one that can be changed ever slightly. There are numerous ways you can pull off Romeo and Juliet. One way would be the zombie versions. Hey, it mixes two good things. Shakespeare and Zombies, who on earth would object? It's obvious you can use any zombie/undead photo reference to make this couple costume doable and even better, anything you should require is most likely available at any store selling halloween props and costumes.
If zombies and gore don't tickle your fancy in regards to Romeo and Juliet, you can always do a general star-crossed lovers. As they would have been seen alive. This is most easily done by shopping any halloween shop that has renaissance style clothing. While we don't know fully IF either of the two would wear that particular color, in general we have an idea of the style. For the authentic look be sure to not have any watches showing or other 'newer' gadgets unless really mandatory. Authenticity can't be beat.
2) Sonny and Cher
If you or your significant other were considering going out as hippies, why not dress your best as Sonny and Cher? Who can't envision these two when just their names are mentioned together? I sure can easily. Any online web-image search can show you ample pictures of what the duo looked like if you aren't entirely sure. Even better, dressing up as this duo is extremely easy since hippies seem to be very popular around halloween. If you still haven't a clue, just remember that Sonny was the shorter of the two and Cher always wore these Bob Mackie designer outfits. (This is where you can search Cher and Bob Mackie for an even better idea) But, if you're like most people, you just can't afford a big budget for a costume party. This is where vintage shops or second hand stores come in handy.
If this doesn't suit your fancy, you could always warp it and make it politician Sonny and Cher a la "Believe". There are countless ideas you can use with these two - just use your imagination on this one.
3) Santa and Mrs. Claus
If you're not the type to buy a costume for one occasion, why not have your spouse, friend or family member chip in for a costume that can be double the fun. Santa and Mrs. Claus. Off the top of my head I can come up with two fun ideas for these two. The first, obviously, is the traditional fur-lined suit, black boots and shiny nose, with the wife in the same jolly outfit and apron on smiling perfectly with every ounce of christmas spirit she can. I don't know if it's an easy costume to attain, however, if you're the crafty type you could always try to make the outfits yourself.
The more cute one of this couple is the Bermuda Clauses. This only requires hair and beards like the couple. Other than that, you can use your summer clothes for this one. Be creative - if you need to, you can go to a second hand shop for a hawaiian shirt and shorts. Just don't forget to wear socks with sandals. Be silly, have fun. Just don't forget the sunglasses and beard!
4) Bonnie and Clyde
This mixes two fun aspects of Halloween. An infamous bank-robbing couple that, beyond it all, truly were in love with each other and the excitement of being a mobster. This one you can also do in two ways. Both, if you truly need to, you may find online using web searches. The first of these two are the couple as they were often seen: Clyde in his jacket, shirt and hat and Bonnie in her long skirt, heels and sweater holding a gun. Of course, you can't forget the gun that Clyde kept close at hand. Numerous sites online can show how the two dressed, but, consider seeking out attire in the late 20's and early 30's for consultation. (Avoid seeking past 1933, though, the couple were killed early on in 1934)
Your other option is somewhat gruesome, but, another 'after' for famous couples. Dressing the same way, if you want, you can dress up as the 'post mortem' duo, complete with fake blood (available in any store around Halloween) and a lot of creativity. Basically, you'd be creating zombie Bonnie and Clyde. However, some may not get the reference unless explained. This may be true in either case for this costume idea.
While there are definitely many ideas for couples to dress up as for Halloween to be in a specific theme, these are only 4 ideas that seem both fun and easy to accomplish. Even if you don't "do" the dress up thing for the season, maybe sometime down the road these ideas may come in handy. You never know when there will be a costume ball.
