Kelly green is the dominant color of St. Patrick's Day and of course, so is the shamrock shape. You can cut out shamrocks by searching the Internet and copying them onto green paper. Another option is that you can visit just about any dollar store and purchase supplies for decorating. Think of such things like green streamers or green balloons. Of course you can cut the shamrocks out of paper, but why not out of wood? Or make a felt wall hanging that you can keep year after year.
Besides the noble shamrock, what else pops into your mind when you mention St. Patrick's Day? How about a rainbow, a pot of gold and Leprechauns? You can paint a mural or have your children draw a large rainbow on mural paper and don't forget to put the pot of gold at the end! Most of us know that the Leprechaun is the keeper of the pot of gold, so don't forget to throw in a couple of them. Cut out spirals in shiny green paper and tie a balloon on one end of it and hang them from the ceiling. Balloons will make any party feel festive.
If you have a table that you need to decorate you can do so by starting off with an inexpensive white or green table cloth, then decorating the table cloth with shamrock shaped confetti or rainbow confetti (available at most dollar stores). The table can be adorned with simple white napkins with a shamrock sticker. You can make your own napkin rings out of green pipe cleaner (available at most craft stores), simply twist the pipe cleaner around the rolled up napkin and affix a shamrock sticker to the front of the pipe cleaner and viola, you have simple St. Patrick Day napkin rings!
For a centerpiece for your table, you can visit your local nursery or grocery store and pick up an actual shamrock plant. Put the plant in a small terra cotta pot which you can either paint green (sponge paint with an old sponge with green and white paint if you have time) or simply wrap a green ribbon around the body of the terra cotta pot. If you cannot find an actual shamrock plant, you could use white flowers such as carnations adding some greenery and a shamrock plastic flower pick.
If you have children coming to your house for St. Patrick's Day, you can scatter some Lucky Charms cereal or other suitable green candy (such as green Skittles) as confetti on your table for that little bit of extra fun. Don't forget what the Leprechauns are famous for. Their gold! You can purchase gold foiled chocolate coins at most large stores and use them for your guests to take home as a remembrance of the fun they had at your home. You can wrap the coins in green material and tie them with gold ribbon
