Fun Easter Ideas

Tips and Ideas for Fun Projects and Crafts

It is so important to find as much time as possible to spend with your children and finding crafts or projects that they can help with can mean so much to them. At the same time, it is also important for adults to keep in touch with that inner child. So, these are a few of the traditional projects that my family and friends enjoy doing to celebrate Easter. However, there are many other Easter themed crafts that can be found with the help of a search engine online that include keepsake boxes, picture frames and bookmarks. Whatever craft or project you take on this Easter holiday, just remember to keep it fun. The main purpose is to spend time with one another and enjoy the holiday.

Easter Eggs - Many people carry on the tradition of decorating eggs and then using them for an Easter egg hunt. Others use these eggs to decorate their homes and still others just use the eggs to give to the Easter bunny. Regardless of how you choose to use them, decorating eggs can be a great way to include children in a craft and show your creative streak. The easiest way of decorating Easter eggs is probably the plastic shrink décor. My personal opinion is that it is so much more fun to paint or dye the eggs yourself. There are several methods that can be used to prepare the eggs for decoration and everyone will quickly figure out what is best for them. Although it is the best way to assure your eggs do not spoil, I don't suggest that anyone attempt to blow out the eggs. Not only will your cheeks burn and ache after the first egg, but all of the fun and excitement will fade quickly and as we all know, once the fun fades, a child's attention will follow. It would probably be best to hard boil the eggs you want to decorate if you are working with children on this project.

Saving Money on Easter Baskets - I like to find small ways to save money in everything that I do, so always have extra baskets of all sizes and designs around my home and I save the "paper grass" from past Easter baskets. In addition, I found that it pays to purchase chocolates and candy before the Easter rush. Of course, there really isn't a way to do this for the Easter must-haves like those delicious marshmallow bunnies and ducks so I do splurge and get those. There are lots of ideas for small keepsake crafts that can be put into an Easter basket to give it the personal touch. For example, creating a handmade bracelet or necklace can be a nice idea for a girl. There are lots of craft kits for boys to make a small car or birdhouse for spring that can easily fit into the basket with all of your other additions. It's also smart to stop into your local dollar store to find small gifts to add to the basket. You can often pick up small stuffed animals, toys or games for a dollar. It's a great way to add to the basket without having to spend a lot of extra money.

Easter Tree - I have a friend who keeps a small artificial tree out all year long in her foyer area and decorates it with every season and holiday. At first, I thought it was so much work for a decoration. However, that changed when I happened to be visiting her last Easter. She had drawn out eggs, bunnies and flowers on construction paper and had her son color them. She then cut the decorations out, punched a hole at the top and hung them up on the tree with a ribbon. As her son gets older, she plans on explaining the biblical story of Easter and decorating the tree with a combination of decorations. Since she isn't particularly active with a church but wants her children to decide for themselves, she felt this was the best way to open those doors for them.

Easter Baking & Candies - It seems like holidays and food just go hand in hand. So, after you have cooked the big meal, enlist the help of the kids to make dessert. Cakes or cupcakes are easy for children to help decorate, but cookies seem to be the easiest from experience. Sugar cookies are a springtime staple in our home, so we tend to get a little creative and use different food coloring in the dough and pastel colored sprinkles to decorate them with around Easter. In addition, we use cookie cutters to get the cookies in fun shapes. We have also made homemade candies with Easter themes since it is so easy to do with candy molds from our local craft store.
