Fun & Easy DIY Christmas Crafts

With the economy the way it is now, we are all looking for ways to save money. These homemade Christmas crafts are fun and easy for the entire family to join in on to create.

Glitter Candy Canes:

Items needed:

Styrofoam Candy Canes

Silver Glitter

Green Glitter

Elmer Craft Glue

½" Wide Red/Green Christmas Ribbon

Newspapers

Craft Paintbrush

Salt Shakers

Pour the green and red glitter into a salt shaker, lay a piece of newspaper on to a table and then take a candy cane and paintbrush and apply a thin coat of glue and then use the salt shaker to sprinkle the glitter on to each candy cane, making sure the entire candy cane is covered in glitter. Lay each candy cane on a piece of newspaper and let dry completely and then take a 2" strip of Christmas ribbon and start at the bottom secure the tip of the ribbon with some glue and then wind the ribbon around the cane and once you reach the top, secure the end of the ribbon on to the bottom underside of the candy cane with some more glue.

Christmas Tree Photo Ornaments

Items you need:

Pre-cut Wooden Circles/Squares (your choice of sizes)

Glue

Magnets

Black Marker

Family Photos

Paper Clips

Take different family photos and cut out each photo down to the size to fit on to each piece of wood. Glue each photo on to the wood and then glue a magnet on to the back of each piece of wood. Write Christmas 2009 on the back of each photo magnet using a black marker. Take paper clip and straighten it out and make a hook on one end. Glue the paper clip in the center on the back of each ornament. Hang on the Christmas tree and enjoy your creativity.

Angel Turkeys

Items you need:

Small wooden heads

Fine Tip Markers in brown and flesh colors

Fine tip Black marker

Brown Feathers

Red Feathers

Yellow Feathers

Hot Glue Gun

Red pipe cleaners cut into ½' strips ( to use for the gobbler under the turkey's chin)

Brown Pipe Cleaners cut into ½" strips (for the cone on the turkey head)

1/4-inch round wooden dowels cut into 4 pieces that are 4" long

4" round or oval Styrofoam pieces

Paint the head using the flesh tone colored marker. Draw the eyes and mouth with the black marker and the nose. Place two ½" strips of brown pipe cleaners on top of the head using a dab of hot glue and be careful not to burn your fingers with the hot glue! Place the head on to the body of the turkey by using a dab of hot glue. Next, take the brown and red feathers and glue them to the body of the turkey overlapping each one until the Styrofoam body is completely covered with the feathers. Now, use two red feathers and two brown feathers and cluster them together and glue them on to the back of the turkey for the tail. Now take the four wooden dowel pieces and glue them on to the underside of the turkey to use for his legs. Now take one of the ½' strips of a red pipe cleaner and shape it into an e and then glue this under the head for the gobbler under the turkey's chin.
