Fun and Easy Halloween Activities for Your Toddler

With Halloween just around the corner, some parents may be wondering how their toddler can participate, be entertained, and have a safe, fun holiday. Here are a few easy ideas.

Have a family Halloween arts and crafts celebration

This "celebration" simply involves gathering the best Halloween-related coloring books (some are available free of cost online), stencils, and stamps and having the most fun possible by creating beautiful, yet "creepy" pieces of art. Your toddler will love showing his or her creative side and designing stunning masterpieces.

Get together with other parents and have a Halloween carnival at your home or somewhere else in your community

This event is a great way for you to network with other parents and for your child to meet other children his or her age. The carnival is also a way to pool resources and provide lots of fun for a little bit of money from each contributor.

Activities that you can include at the carnival include face-painting (always a fun activity for children and a parent with some hidden artistic ability can be the voluntary painter), pumpkin painting (since handling a knife and carving actual jack-o-lanterns is completely out of the question at this age), and a costume fashion show (imagine cute little toddlers dressed as ladybugs, fairies, Spider-men, and vampires walking down the magnificent runway!). Don't forget-music and group dancing are always required.

Take your toddler to a pumpkin patch

Many people may not be familiar with their local pumpkin patches, but a quick search online can lead you in the right direction. How awesome would it be to your toddler to see rows and rows of beautiful pumpkins of all sizes? Even better than that, how great would it be for your toddler to pick out his or her own personal pumpkin and bring it home? A trip to the pumpkin patch could be just what your toddler needs to feel festive. Some farms also offer hay rides, which may be fun for both you and your child.

Take your toddler trick-or-treating-but with a twist

Who said "treats" for Halloween had to be just about candy? This year, collaborate with other parents and provide healthy treats for your young ones, including sliced apples, strawberries, and pretzel sticks (or if you and your child won't be out long, make that yogurt-dipped pretzel sticks). Going door-to-door collecting yummy treats is something every toddler should get to experience.

With any of these activities, your toddler will be sure to feel included in all of the fun and festivities. As he or she grows older, fond thoughts of those fun Halloween days and/or nights will forever be ingrained in his or her memory!
