Sacramento is a great city and being the state capitol is a very busy and exciting place. It's right in the California wine country, so people this summer may want to visit some of the many local wineries or the several beer makers. There are lots of hiking trails in the region for people who need to get some exercise, get out in nature and loose some weight. Families can take many outings together on some area lakes as well. But there are some special tfun reats that are coming up this summer for families with kids, music lovers, and those interested in learning about the world around them.

For those who just love those open-air concerts there's a show coming up this summer at McClatchy Park . This is a community-wide happening for families and friends who love gospel, jazz or hip-hop music. It's being managed by the Oak Park Summer Concert Board on July 21, and promises to be much more than just your typical concert. The lineup should be great, but there will also be a health fair, games for young people and lots of food and fun for people of all ages. Come down there from 1-6 p.m. to join in the festivities.

The Sacramento Zoo is a great place to chill out during those long summer days and it's an ideal venue for families with kids. There are always things going on there for families to enjoy. Nobody should be ignoring this great resource. Some of the great special happenings there this summer include their Tuesday Music at the Zoo programs three nights, June 12, 19, and 26 from 6-8 p.m. and the outdoor movie on June 15 from 6:30-10 p.m. On June 23, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. there will be a silent auction with all sorts of scrumptious offerings from the area's finest restaurants. The local wineries will also have some set ups too. But look at their calendar and take time out to visit the zoo often for the special events that are happening this summer. Call (916) 808-5888 for details about any event that interests you.

There will be a truly unique event this summer for science and art lovers at the Museum. A traveling tour of Da Vinci's machines and inventions straight from his workshops in Italy will be displayed in the Sacramento area from April 20th all the way through most of the summer. An exhibit like this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for families to see the works of this remarkable man who invented so many things. Some of these machines are even interactive, meaning loads of fun for the kids. It's probably worth several visits. Call 916-808-7777 for more information about times and prices. Students and seniors can see this event for just $11.95 and adults will pay $17.95, but getting an annual membership will save money for all future visits too. Or get a Sacramento Gold Card at any area hotel and take advantage of receiving two tickets for one!
