Fun Fact Friday!

Today's Fun Fact Friday is about Chicago, the city I call home!

1. On June 10th, 1847, the first ever issue of the Chicago Tribune was printed.
I find this to be a fascinating piece of information. I knew the Tribune was an old publication, but I didn't know that it was, in fact, 163 years old!

2. The famed Great Chicago Fire burned over the course of two days, October 8th and 9th, 1871, destroying 3.5 square miles of the city.
Fun fact in and of itself, my birthday is on October 9th (not 1871!) which makes me feel... a little uncomfortable, really, thinking about it in context of the Fire.

3. The Chicago "L" elevated railway opened in 1891. The oldest section of L track (Green Line at Roosevelt) has been in continuous use since that time.
I... really don't have anything to say in reference to this one. Except that I've never ridden the Green Line, and this fact makes me want to.

4. Chicago's Western Ave. is the world's longest street.
I live right off Western Ave. and I've always thought it seemed to go on forever. I guess I was right!

5. Keebler and Nabisco both have their largest factories located on Chicago's south side.
Now that's something I didn't know. Now I know where all my cookies and crackers come from!

Thank you for joining us for this, the inaugural Fun Fact Friday! Come back next week for another set of interesting trivia.
