Black Swan Facts
Natalie Portman suggested Darren Aronofsky cast Mila Kunis in the role of Lily, and he did so without requiring an audition.
In an interview with Peter Travers, Mila Kunis said about the first day of ballet rehearsal for the movie The Black Swan: "I walked into the studio and realized I can't dance to save my life. The dancing I did when I was 10 was not quite passable at the age of 26. So, you know, as adorable as I looked in my tutu and my pink slippers when I was 10, didn't quite translate."
Somewhat jokingly, the actress also told Peter Travers that the Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky tried to cause a riff between Mila Kunis and co-star Natalie Portman. But that he soon gave up on that idea when it wasn't working. The director was worried that her real life friendship with Natalie Portman would interfere with the rivalry their characters had in Black Swan.
Biography Facts
Mila Kunis was born in Ukraine in 1983, and spent her early childhood growing up in communist Russia.
She has one older brother.
Mila Kunis and her family moved to America in 1991 when she was 7 years old. They came to the country with just $250.
In an interview with Peter Travers, the actress said that she didn't realize she was poor until she met wealthy people in America. And also, that she had never seen a black person till she was making her way to America.
She graduated from Fairfax high school in L.A.
Unknown to most, Mila Kunis apparently had been blind in one eye due to chronic iritis.
TV & Film Acting Facts
She started acting at age 9. In fact, her first acting job was a commercial for Barbie.
Until recently, the actress was best known for her role on the long running television show That 70's Show. She played Jackie Burkhart and was nominated seven years in a row for a Teen Choice Award, but never won.
Mila Kunis said she didn't watch That 70's Show, explaining that "no person should go through puberty on national television. And that was me."
Did you know that Mila Kunis is the voice of Meg Griffin on The Family Guy cartoon series? Her voice was also used in the TV series Robot Chicken. She also voices Tanya in the video game Saints Row.
Her recent movie roles include parts in After Sex, Moving McAllister, Boot Camp, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Max Payne, Extract, The Book of Eli, Date Night, and Black Swan.
Later this year, she is set to appear in the movie Friends with Benefits opposite Justin Timberlake. An ironic fact: Natalie Portman is appearing also in a movie this year with a similar plot opposite Ashton Kutcher called No Strings Attached.
