Fun Fall and Winter Outdoor Activities

Summer is filled with fun activities that everyone can enjoy. As the colder months come, you may find yourself dreading the dreary months spent inside. This does not have to be the case. There are plenty of fun and exciting activities to take part in during the colder months. This article will outline a few of may favorite activities to take part in during the fall and winter months.

Sledding is my favorite activity when there is snow on the ground. It can be fun for both children and adults. Sleds are available in many varieties at almost any department store. They range from traditional wooden sleds to plastic lid shaped sleds. However, my favorite item is the tube. It is basically the same type of tube used in water. Sledding is great because it can be done pretty much anywhere that there are hills. Make sure the area is safe before committing to a location though. The area should be far away from traffic and clear of trees.

In the fall months one of my favorite activities is haunted housing. It is great for anyone who enjoys a good scare. Haunted houses can be found in most towns and range in price from five dollars to forty five depending on the location and attraction. My favorite haunted activity is Kings Island in Mason, Ohio. The price changes from year to year, but it remains a great value. The amusement park includes all of the regular roller coasters and rides. Festivals can be found around the fall months. I enjoy attended our local pumpkin festival. Most towns have pumpkin festivals. You can go and enjoy petting zoos, crafts, and pumpkin related items for sale. Most also have pumpkin decorating activities for the kids and other fun games and crafts.

Snowboarding and skiing are always fun. If you've never been skiing or snowboarding before it may be helpful to take lessons. Columbus Ohio has many famous ski resorts. Alpine Valley and Mad River Mountain are two popular locations. Most of these locations use fake snow and ice. Therefore, they are open as early as October.

Ice skating is very fun during the winter months. It is very important to go to an outdoor rink or lake that is meant for ice skating. Never skate on any body of water otherwise. Supervision is very important in case of any accidents. Some ski resorts offer ice skating also. Some outdoor rinks will also organize and allow ice hockey games. Be sure to buy or rent all of the proper gear ahead of time.

Building snowmen is a fun activity to do at home. Kids love building snowmen and making snow angels. It's great to get together with a few friends or family and have a snowman building contest. Have the kids build and let the adults judge who made the best snowman. You can find most items you need to decorate a snowman in the house. However, it is fun to get creative. Buy different crafts and decorations for the kids to use.
