Fun Family Vacation in Wisconsin Dells

Splashing Good Time in Waterpark Capital of the World

If you like your vacations filled with water, water and more water, then head for a little town called Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The area does tout itself as the "Waterpark Capital of the World."

But so much more awaits families and couples in this Midwestern phenomenon.

The choices for accommodations keep increasing with new mega resorts being built or expanded, an adult luxury spa inn, national chain hotels, small mom and pop motels, and rustic and modern camping facilities.

The big resorts keep building bigger indoor and outdoor waterparks within their confines. Guests never have to leave because the facilities offer everything from restaurants to fitness centers to arcades. Even in the dead of winter, you can enjoy the sites and sounds of summer with an indoor wave pool at several of the resorts.

Each year, new amenities get added to keep the fun going strong such as movies by moonlight, poolside cabanas, kids' clubs and all-inclusive options. Some of the bigger resorts offer guests the opportunity to buy luxury condos on site.

The reasons many of the annual 3 million visitors come to this popular retreat remains the scenery. Spectacular high bluffs of sandstone rock line the banks of the Wisconsin River in the Dells area. To see it all up close and personal, you can be one of the thousands to soak up all the beauty on the amphibious Wisconsin Ducks. These World War II vehicles go from land to water and vice versa with a big splash and popularity.

For other entertainment, the area offers a casino, water skiing and jumping show, a dinner and music theater, go karts, roller coasters, horse back riding, golf and miniature golf.

The downtown area becomes quite bustling during the summer months when you can watch store owners make fudge or taffy, buy lots of tourists stuff or eat cheese curds. Just recently, the Dells RiverWalk opened up to let you bike ride, enjoy a picnic or just stroll along the river.

The restaurants throughout the area range from enormous pizza buffets, elegant supper clubs with kids' menus, or poolside hamburgers at your resort.

The town also opens up its doors to fun and festive special events in all the four seasons. If cars are your passion, the Automotion auto show happens the third weekend each May with hundreds of cars to view, live entertainment and other festivities.

Wow- I've always heard of the attractions, never the scenery. Sounds like a fun place all around.
