Fun Foam Easter Bunny Crafts for Kids

Angela W. La Fon
Easter crafts are so colorful and fun. Whether you're looking for DIY Easter decorations, fun party crafts or cute handmade Easter gifts, foam sheets should be in the basket of every teacher or parent creating Easter crafts with kids.

Foam sheets, are available in single color or multi-color packs and come in a variety of sizes. Foam sheets are a fun medium to work with and really add dimension and "pop" to Easter crafts. If you can create an outline, you cut out just about any Easter craft imaginable like eggs, bunnies, chicks, flowers, baskets or crosses.

DIY Easter Necklaces

Kids love to decorate themselves.

Supplies:

Foam sheets

Pencil

Scissors

Hole puncher

Yarn or jewelry chord

Glue for embellishments

Kids can brainstorm to choose an Easter symbol that they would like to wear as a necklace. For example, for a bunny necklace, simply sketch a round head with two large ears. Don't like your first sketch? Simply turn the foam over and try again on the back.

Foam is actually rather easy to cut even with safety scissors. In my experience, kids age six and up with basic scissor skills can usually cut their own simple shapes from foam.

The hole puncher is key to easily turning this into an Easter necklace. Simply cut two holes near the top of the design and you'll thread your string from back to front and then back the second hole. Using this technique helps the Easter necklace to rest flat.

Of course kids can add embellishment cut from foam to accessorize their bunnies, add dots to Easter eggs or little flowers to crosses.

DIY Bunny Pencil Toppers

Nothing says we're having a party and a special day at school like a creative pencil topper.

Supplies:

Foam sheets in pink or white

Pencils (for drawing and inserting)

Scissors

Glue and embellishments

Cotton balls or cotton pads

Craft or Exacto knife

Kids could design Easter eggs or flowers but little bunnies seem to the most popular choice for Easter pencil toppers.

After kids design their foam bunny head, show them how to make two short horizontal and parallel lines about where the nose would be. Adults can cut slits with a craft knife and this is where the pencil will be inserted from the back into the bottom slit and back through the top slit to the back. The small spot of pencil showing will appear to be the bunny's nose.

Kids can add glue on or marker eyes, mouth, whiskers or even bow ties. The cutest embellishment is to cut out what my students call the "ear liners" from cotton pads. Since the pads are layered cotton, if you cut out one long oval shape, kids can pull in apart for two "ear liners."

DIY Easter Wreath

Welcome spring and Easter with a cute foam wreath decoration.

Supplies:

Cheap paper plates

Variety of pastel colored foam

Pencil

Scissors

Glue

Ribbon hanger

Hole punch

I love to use the outside ring of cheap paper plates as a base for kids to make wreaths. For the wreath kids will design about seven Easter eggs around 3 inches long. Remember to let them cut out small shapes to add as stripes or dots. The texture and layers of color really make this Easter wreath bloom. They can also create the Easter bunny head, a chick, flower or cross as a focus point.

Use the two holes punches method to string the ribbon through when the Easter wreath is dry and your kids have created an adorable handmade Easter gift to share with a loved one.
