Skyler Raine
Food isn't just for eating! One very fun craft that kids can do with food is make a painting using fruit and vegetable stamps. You will need a variety of fruits and vegetables like star fruit, apples, pears, oranges, lemons, broccoli, bell peppers, corn and Chinese cabbage. You will also need a knife, cutting board, washable craft paint, paper plates and drawing paper. First, wash and dry all the fruits and vegetables. Next, prepare your stamps by cutting apples and pears in half lengthwise, cut oranges and lemons in half crosswise, cut bell peppers in half crosswise as well and clean out all the seeds. Broccoli florets can be separated and insert a stick into the corn to make a handle. Use a paper plate for each color of paint and use this to dip the stamp in, make sure it is evenly covered and then press it down on a piece of paper. Kids will love to see the different shapes each fruit and vegetable can make. Broccoli makes sponge like prints, Chinese cabbage can look like a rose, star fruit of course looks like a star and the corn can be rolled across the paper to make an interesting pattern too.

Did you know beans and seeds can make beautiful mosaics? Well, one easy and fun craft includes beans of different colors and sizes, rice, sunflower seeds, bird seed, corn kernels, nutshells, and anything else along these lines. You will also need craft glue, small paper cups, and a heavy craft paper like construction paper or poster board. First, separate each different type of seed into a paper cup. Next, draw a picture on your paper and use it as an outline for your mosaic. You can make a garden, an animal, anything you like. Then, squeeze glue onto small portions of your drawing at a time and sprinkle the seed or nut with the color or shape that you want on the glue. Remember to work on small sections at a time because the glue can dry. Continue to sprinkle the seeds until your drawing is completely covered and let the glue dry before picking up. All of the different shapes, colors and patterns of the seeds ad beans will create an eye catching mosaic picture.

A tasty little craft that can be eaten afterwards are cracker ladybugs. You will need Ritz crackers, cream cheese, red jelly, and black shoestring licorice. First, spread some crackers with cream cheese and then for every cream cheese cracker, cut another plain cracker in half for the wings. Place small drops of jelly into the holes on the wing crackers and angle them so their sticking out of the cream cheese like wings. Next, add small pieces of licorice at the top for antennae and you're done!
