Children love anything. Even the simplest of items can please most child, especially the younger ones. A fun and free reading incentive that you can make yourself is a bookmark. Bookmarks are free for the making. You could make your child a bookmark for every book that they own without spending a cent. Here's how...
The first step in making your own fun and free book marks for your kids is to know that you can! Once you realize that book marks can be made for free you can make tons of them. It is such a simple idea that many people don't even think of it.
What you'll need to make the book marks is a good pair of sharp scissors. Dull scissors will create rough edges. For fine cut and neat edges a sharp pair of scissors will work best. Next, you'll need colorful paper or card board.
The household items we use every day come packaged colorfully. What happens to the packaging when the products are used? It gets thrown away. Do you know how many book marks you can make out of the card boards that you recycle each week? Several.
Search in your recycling bin for cereal boxes and such that are colorful. Each time you use a product and are ready to throw the box away or to recycle it check it first. Look for fun or funky colors, shapes, or patterns that could be turned into book marks for your children.
Once you have found the colorful cardboard all you need to do is cut out the book mark. To do this simply cut a two by five inch strip from the decorative part of the box. Cereal boxes are really great for making book marks from. They are large and several can be made from one, and they are also decorated with kids in mind.
Solid color book marks can also be made from all sorts of types of food packages. There is usually a nice strip of solid color on every box of pasta. Bookmarks can also be made from scrap wrapping paper, or even from fresh folded tin foil!
Children love all of the little extra things that we give them. Young and blossoming readers will love to read even more when they have all sorts of fun and funky bookmarks. You can make you own bookmarks for free by cutting strips from the colorful boxes and packages that will be thrown out and or recycled. Bookmarks can be made from colored paper as well and can even be decorated. Thanks for reading and take care!
