With soaring gas prices many parents look cheap activities to do with their children. Many families are having to cut out family vacationing due to the cost of travelling. However parents do not want to leave their children sitting at home and missing out on summer activities. But just because your budget is cut, your summer fun does not have to be. There are many exciting activities that you and your children can do that are cheap or even free! Check out below for some ideas.

Visit the library. There is much that can be gained from taking your children to the library. Your children will enjoy reading and looking at books. Many libraries also offer a summer reading program for children in which they include activities and crafts. Libraries also offer videos to rent for free.

Attend vacation Bible school. Just because you do not attend church or that particular church does not mean that your children will not enjoy attending VBS. Vacation Bible Schools offer much fun and enrichment for children. They are free to enjoy!

Check for free movies. Many cities offer free movies for children during the summer months. Check your city and movie cinemas and see if they are having free movies in your town.

Go to the park. There is nothing that children love more than running and playing. Visit the park early in the morning or late in the afternoon for some fun. Try to avoid midday in case the equipment is hot. Some parks now have splash pads for the children to play on.

Go hiking. Take your children on a nature hike. If there are not many trails where you live, simply hike in your yard. Point out the various nature's miracles to your children. Search for bugs and creatures. Watch the birds and look for nests. They will love it.

Have a picnic. Children love doing things differently. Pack up some sandwiches and head outdoors for lunch. They will enjoy the change in schedule. Don't forget the bug spray!

Go camping. Your children will love getting in touch with nature. Camp sites usually charge a small fee for using their grounds. If you prefer you and the land, you can locate your own camp site. Fishing is a great activity to accompany the camping fun.

Hose them down. Children love water. Going to the pool everyday can be expensive. Try pulling out the hose and squirting them down with water. They will be sure to give you lots of giggles.
