Fun Games for Your Bridal Shower

Play These Exciting Games and You Won't See a Yawn in the Crowd

Kassidy Emmerson
Bridal showers are a fun way for the bride-to-be to get together with her relatives and friends for a "females only" bash before she takes that trip down the aisle. It's a time for her to celebrate, get presents, play games, and just have a day of fun!

In these modern times, with equal rights and all, some bridal showers include the menfolk too. However, most men I know would rather take part in the "Bachelor's Party" and skip what they perceive to be the "Boring-Frilly-Tea Party" the women partake in. What the menfolk don't know is, that a bridal shower is filled with delicious food, party games, and lots of laughter and fun!

Here are some games that will surely make the next bridal shower you host a hit!

1. Name Scramble
Give each of your guests a sheet of paper and a pen. At the top of the paper, you will have already printed out the bride's and the groom's given names. Position the names so they are one on top of the other, such as this example:
KEVIN PATRICK JONES
SHAUNA DEANN SMITH

Next, give your guests three or four timed minutes to make as many words as they can out of the two names. The guest who writes down the most number of words wins a small prize.

2. Wedding Scramble
Here's another scramble game you can play at your next bridal shower. It will exercise your guests' gray matter and bring on some laughs at the same time!

Write down ten or twenty words- depending how long you want this game to run- that pertain to a wedding. These words can include: bride, groom, ringbearer, honeymoon, rings, minister, church, reception, bridesmaid, flowers, tuxedo, limousine- you get the drift.

Then, scramble the words and print them on a piece of paper. Give each guest a paper and allow them an ample number of minutes (allow fifteen to thirty seconds per word) to unscramble your word list. The woman who unscrambles the most words is, of course, the winner.

3. Show Us Your ____!
This next game is loads of fun because you'll have your guests ripping through their purses as fast as they can. Plus, have you ever wondered what other females carry in their bags? You'll sure find out when you play this game at your next party!

Make up a list of common items that a woman might carry in her purse. These items will include a hair brush, pen, pad of paper, lipstick, and so on. Add to the list some unusual items that a woman may carry, such as: a candy bar, breath mints, baby toy, a cloth handkerchief, et cetera.

Then, tell the women they'll need their purses open to play this game. Explain to them that you are going to call off a list of items, one by one. They are supposed to try and find the item in their bags. The first one to find the item you just called, and hold it up in the air, is the winner. She gets a quarter as a prize.

Finally, after all the items on your list are called, the guest who has won the most quarters round- by-round is the grand prize winner! She should get a small present.

4. The Made-Up Bridal Story
This is a funny game for all who attend your party. There really are no winner or losers, it's just a lot of silly laughs!

Copy this short story down as it's written: (Bride's Name) and (Groom's Name)

met one day and fell in (adjective) love. (Bride's Name) worked as a (job title) in a/an (adjective)

(place). Her fiancee worked in a/n (adjective) (place). His job title was (job title). The happy

couple got married and took their (adjective) honeymoon in (place). When they returned (period

of time) later, they lived in a/an (adjective) (type of housing). They wanted to have (a number)

(adjective) baby (type of living creature), but they decided to wait until they (verb) the (noun) or

(verb) the (noun) first. They did decide to name their first baby (name) (name) (name). And,

(Bride's Name) and (Groom's Name) lived happily everafter!

Now, don't let anyone else see your paper! Keep it secret! Go around the room, one by one, and ask your bridal shower guests to provide a word for each space. (Of course, you should fill in the real names of the bride and groom.) As the ladies give you words, replace the spaces with them. Once the spaces are filled, read the made-up story to your guests and try not to giggle too hard!

The old tale goes that a Dutchman fell in love with a young girl who had no dowry. So, her friends placed gifts inside an umbrella. They then had a party for the poor girl. When the friends opened the umbrella over the girl's head, the gifts "showered" her. Hence the term, "bridal shower."
