Fun Games to Play at a Toddler Halloween Party

Toddlers will surely have fun with this balloon pop game. Before blowing up the balloons, add a small treat like candy or spider rings. Blow up 2 or 3 balloons for every child and make sure there are enough treats for each balloon. Put all the balloons on the floor and tell the children how many balloons they are allowed to pop. They will have to sit on the balloon and maybe even bounce to get it to pop and when it does, they get to keep the treat.

Another game toddlers can enjoy is a version of pin the tail on the donkey called pin the mouth on the pumpkin. Cut out a pumpkin from orange construction paper and draw on eyes and a nose but no mouth. From black construction paper cut out the mouth and put double sided tape on the back. Take turns blindfolding each child and see how close they can get to correctly placing the mouth on the pumpkin.

If your party is outside, you can play a game of I spy with your Halloween decorations, or take a walk through the neighborhood and play using other Halloween items you happen to stumble upon. You can describe a ghost or skeleton, a witch or black cat, even a pumpkin or scarecrow. Let your toddler try to guess what you are describing.

A simple version of musical chairs for the toddler crowd could be the Halloween version called spooky walk. Cut out shapes of pumpkins, cats, ghosts and witches from construction paper and place them on the floor in a circle. You will need one cutout for every child playing the game. On separate pieces of paper, write the names of the objects that were cut out. Play spooky music and stop it at random intervals, each child should stop next to the symbol when the music stops. Have an adult or child who is not playing draw one of the other pieces of paper from a bag and whoever is on the corresponding cutout is out of the game. Take the cutout away as well and repeat the cycle until there is only one child left and they are the winner.
Toddlers can enjoy a fishing type of game using spiders made of pipe cleaners, a pole or stick and some string. Attach the string to one end of the pole and make a loop at the end of the string. Place the spiders in a bucket and let the kids try to catch a spider by getting the loop around it. The player with the most spiders wins.
