Fun Girls Group Ideas For Church: A Love Comes Softly Series

Becky Fuentes
Working with the girls from church can be rewarding and challenging at the same time. You want to think that you're making a difference in the lives of these girls, but you're not sure how to teach important lessons like self-confidence, self-worth and purity without using the same, old methods they've seen and heard before.

Consider using the Love Comes Softly DVD series to help you infuse new life into your girls church group. The Love Comes Softly DVD series comes with eight DVD's, each of which is 85 minutes long. You can find the Love Comes Softly DVD series at your local Christian bookstore. If you think the price is too high for your budget, try checking with your local library to see if they carry the series.

The Love Comes Softly DVD series is a collection of movies based on the popular Love Comes Softly book series written by Jeanette Oke. Besides being incredibly entertaining and engrossing stories, you'll find that there are many important life lessons weaved all throughout each story. Each story has strong female characters who face harsh conditions, heartbreak and temptation while never losing their faith in God. Your girls will love the romance in the stories and be able to relate to the challenges that each character faces.

Since there are eight DVD's in the Love Comes Softly series, you'll have enough material for a full 8 weeks of girls church group meetings. If your meetings are two hours long, you will have enough time to watch the full movie, plus have time left over the discuss the movie and any questions or conversations that may came up as a result of what the girls have seen.

Here are some tips to get the most from your Love Comes Softly Girls Group series:

Watch the movies before you show them to your girls group. This will ensure that you'll know exactly what to expect when your girls are viewing the movie and will give you time to come up with some conversation-sparking discussion questions for after the movie.

Meet at a home instead of church, if you can. Either invite the girls over to your home, or meet at one of the homes of your girls. This way you can watch the movies in a real living room instead of watching them at church. It may help to make girls feel more comfortable to talk about topics that come up.

Encourage your girls group to invite their friends. If you're meeting at homes instead of church, their friends may be more likely to come and check out what your girls group is all about. Be sure that you and the other girls in the group make any visitors feel welcome and want to come back the following week.

Ask each girl in your group to bring their favorite snack or drink so that there will be plenty of food to snack on during the movie. After all, watching a movie without popcorn just isn't the same!
