Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin
Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin is always one of the most popular games with kids. To play this game, you'll need to purchase a bright orange piece of cardboard from your local discount retailer. You can also use butcher paper to make the pumpkin. Trace out the shape of a pumpkin, asking an artistic friend for help if you happen to be creatively challenged, and cut the pumpkin out. Draw in the eyes and mouth, but leave the nose area blank.
You'll then need to cut out a nose using black construction paper. You'll need to have one cut-out nose for each child who is playing. Have the kids write their names on the nose with pencil, so you'll know whose nose is whose when playing the game.
Blindfold each child, give them a few gentle spins and then point them in the right direction towards the large pumpkin. Have the other kids shout out words of encouragement, letting them know if they are close or too far from where the nose should be.
Have a small prize ready to give to the winner of the game. If you have a large group, you may want to give a small prize to each child who hits the target. Prizes can be anything like a small bag of candy, a fun pencil or a small activity book. Be creative!
Harvest Party Scavenger Hunt
This game requires some planning, but your kids will love running around the church in teams searching for the hidden treasure. You'll want to have at least 4 or 5 clues leading the children towards the place where you've hidden the treasure. Your treasure can be a small basket of candy for the kids to share, balloons or even decorated Harvest party cupcakes.
Musical Chairs
This is a great game to play, especially if you find the energy at your party lagging a little bit. The fun, lively music and the challenge of making sure you get a chair when the music stops will get all your kids laughing and having a great time. To play, simply set up a circle of chairs in the center of the room. You'll need to have enough chairs for each child playing and then remove one chair before you start the game. Play some music using either a CD of Halloween tunes or your favorite children's songs from Sunday School. Stop the music and have all the kids rush to grab a chair. The last one standing is out and you start all over again. Musical chairs can get heated very quickly, so be sure that you divide your party by age groups to ensure that there are no unnecessary accidents. The winner of musical chairs can win a jar of Halloween candy or a fun Halloween-themed dessert or decoration.
