Fun Ideas for Bagged School Lunches

Going back to school means it is time to start packing lunches again. Before you know it, a rut has started and the kids are eating the same type of lunch day after day. Get creative when packing lunches the kids will be happy and you will be providing nutritious meals to get them through the afternoon. Here are a few alternatives to the old sandwich routine.

Purchasing a large mouth thermos will allow your children to take a hot lunch to school without wasting money on the hot lunch program. You begin by microwaving the thermos for a few minutes and then adding hot food to the thermos. lunch. When the lunch bell rings your children will have a yummy home cooked meal. Some easy favorites are baked beans with hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, soup or even chili on a cold day. For a hot sandwich, fill with sloppy joe mix, just send along the bread. Any food that fits in the thermos can be served for lunch. This is a great way to use up leftovers too. Your child will be the envy when the other kids see the cool hot lunch they brought from home.

Another great idea is make your own lunchable. Basically you are sending them off with slices of lunch meat, crackers and cheese for them to build their own little sandwiches. Don't forget that special treat since that seems to be what we all love about the lunchable. This can either be packaged in sandwich bags or a small plastic container. For a beverage include a juice box or have them purchase milk at school.

Bagels make a good alternative to the sandwich. You can make the sandwich using a bagel just had their favorite lunch meat and cheese or send them a bagel already sliced with some cream cheese spread on the bagel. A baggie full of fruit and some yogurt and lunch is served.

Taking a bagged lunch to school does not have to be the old boring sandwich and chips. It can be spiced up numerous ways to keep kids wanting to eat their lunch and saving the family money. Parents will know they are sending nutritious foods their children like to eat. A bit of creative thinking and the school year will be over before the kids are saying they hate taking their lunch to school.
