Fun Ideas to Decorate a Memorable Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree Decoration Ideas

Here I will list 5 Christmas tree decorating ideas I have seen or used myself.

Christmas Tree Decorating Idea No.1 - A Patriotic Tree

A Red, White and Blue Christmas are easy to achieve when one uses a Patriotic theme when decorating the Christmas tree. Use tree lights in the colors of red, white and blue. Those little miniature flags you purchased last July will look great on this tree. Just use a small bit of string or fishing line to tie them to the branches. Use red, white and blue ribbon to make several small, medium and large sized bows to be tied to the branches also. If you like garland on your tree use blue and red garland with white lights only; or red, white and blue garland streaming from the top of the tree down to the bottom instead of winding around the tree. For a tree topper use the obvious choice, a bright shiny star.

Christmas Tree Decorating Idea No. 2 - Grannies Tree

Grannies Christmas tree was always so magical; why not bring that magic back by using only vintage ornaments to decorate your Christmas tree this year. Perhaps you inherited some of your great-grandmothers holiday decorations and were always too afraid to use them. Nonsense! Get those beautiful intricate angels or wonderfully decorative glass balls out and decorate your tree. Of course I don't recommend this tree decorating idea if you have toddlers in the house but if your children are older now is the time to get these family treasures out and tell your children wonderful stories of the memories each ornament brings to mind. Use lots of white lights and white garland when decorating with angels, cherubs and delicate glass bulbs to keep the focal point on them and not the extra "fluff" on the tree.

Christmas Tree Decorating Idea No. 3 - A Themed Tree

Do you collect Angels, Christmas Bears, Snowmen or Santa's? Perhaps you have a collection of paper snowflake cutouts or Christmas ornaments crafted by your children each year as they were growing up. Use these items to decorate a themed Christmas tree.

  • Place angels on your tree branches and embellish the tree with clear Christmas lights and silver or white garland.
  • Beanie baby bears, remember those, look great peeking out of a Christmas tree with multicolored lights and silvery tinsel.
  • Snowmen of all shapes and sizes could peek from a white flocked Christmas tree with clear lights to add sparkle to the wintry scene.
  • Use Santa, that jolly fat man himself, to decorate your themed Christmas tree. Decked out with red and green lights, red and green garland, miniature stocking caps and of course your Santa Collection this tree would make many bellies jiggle with laughter.
  • And of course who doesn't love a Christmas tree decorated with all those candy canes, the mistletoe, picture ornaments and clay cookie cutter ornaments brought home each year lovingly made by your child's hands. Give these items a place of honor by using them to decorate this year's Christmas tree. Enjoy those proud smiling faces as they help you place these items at just the right spot on your Christmas tree; or watch those grown up eyes become misty as they exclaim, "Oh mom, you still have these!"

Christmas Tree Decoration Idea No. 4 - A Cookie Cutter Christmas

If you are just starting out and don't have many Christmas Decorations or much money to buy any try this cute and affordable idea. Use cookie cutters to decorate your tree. Purchase multicolored or clear lights, several colors of thin ribbon and a multi-pack of Christmas sugar cookie cutters. Cookie cutters can be purchased at most stores including Wal-Mart, Target and Dollar General. Kitchen Supply stores have a wonderful variety and even offer themed packs. Make plenty of sugar cookies for the holidays for yourself and for gift giving, and then use those cookie cutters to decorate your tree. Just tie a length of ribbon through the cookie cutter and use the loop created to hang the cookie cutter on the tree. You could also use cornstarch, salt and water to make clay dough and use the cutter to cutout the shapes. Use a toothpick to create a hole and leave overnight to harden. (See resources for clay dough recipes.) Use these to decorate your tree along with the cookie cutters. This is a fun and thrifty Christmas Tree decorating idea guaranteed to be enjoyed by all.

Christmas Tree Decoration Idea No. 5 - Bows

This is another thrifty tree decoration idea. Use bows to decorate your tree, but not just any bows, use gold lame ribbon bows, silver satin bows or rich red velvet bows. Use clear twinkling lights and little or no tinsel or garland. Cover your trees branches with delicious rich textured bows. Maybe you have bows made of ribbon or lace left over from a sewing project, use them to decorate your tree. Did you or your daughter once have long hair and have since gotten it cut and can no longer use all those hair bows you used to wear, place them on your Christmas tree. Decorating with bows can be fun and beautiful. Use all one color, such as all gold, all silver or all red. Try only satin bows or only paper bows. Use your imagination and recycle as many bows as you can find to decorate and fun and whimsical Christmas tree.

I just LOVED your article and seeing your precious grand-daughter!! Of course, being such an ANGEL lover, I liked the way you gave them a prominent place in your article!!!!

Any time now my "Approximately 500 Angels on One Christmas Tree" article should be published, so that may be of interest, too.
