Fun Ideas for Serving Breakfast in Bed

Whether it's Mother's Day, Father's Day, a birthday or any day, it's always nice to wake up to being served breakfast in bed. When you think about breakfast in bed you probably are thinking of eggs and butter toast served with a glass of juice. While this is perfectly fine, you can get even more creative with your breakfast tray.

While it's not the healthiest choice for breakfast, I've never known someone who would turn down a doughnut for breakfast. You can set up your breakfast tray with doughnuts along with coffee for dipping, or a glass of milk if preferred. Instead of just serving the doughnuts on a plate for your special breakfast in bed treat try something a bit different. Place the donut into a plastic treat bag and tie closed with ribbon. Leftover treat bags from the kid's Valentine's Day handouts would make a great choice. Make sure to tie on a gift tag with a special note such as Happy Mother's Day! Or Happy Birthday! This breakfast would be great for the person who would normally skip breakfast or is a light eater.

Breakfast in bed isn't just for adults. Imagine how special a child would feel to receive breakfast in bed for their birthday or as a random treat. Instead of using a traditional breakfast in bed tray you can use a plastic divided tray, such as this one, to serve your child breakfast in bed. You can include a variety of items such as cubes of cheese, sausage links, apple slices, toast, and any other treat which can be eaten with just the hands. Add a box of chocolate milk or a spill proof bottle filled with juice to complete the breakfast tray. Kids may enjoy dining with these trays so much that you can use them over and over again for after school snacks or a future breakfast.

You can make your special someone feel extra special when you serve them breakfast in bed using your best china. A delicious ham and cheese omelet and a side of toast will appear even more appetizing when served on an elegant plate. Serve with a cup of tea in a beautiful cup and saucer set to round out the breakfast. Or if your recipient doesn't enjoy tea you can fill the cup with coffee, milk, or juice. Add a single vase with a flower for an extra touch for your elegant breakfast in bed. This would be a great choice when serving breakfast in bed for Mother's Day.

Want to have some fun with serving breakfast in bed? Try serving breakfast diner style for a unique twist on a traditional breakfast in bed. You can accomplish this by taking a trip to your local dollar store such as Dollar Tree or Dollar General. You can often find Coca-Cola plates and glasses which would work well for this themed breakfast in bed. A replica Coca-Cola tin tray would work well for setting the food upon to be served in bed. Afterwards the tray can be hung on the wall for decoration and as a reminder of their delicious breakfast. This breakfast in bed idea would be great for those who enjoy collecting Coca-Cola items. You could certainly use other items for a diner style breakfast if Coca-Cola isn't your style. Checkered trays, white coffee mugs, see through salt and pepper shakers would all help to complete a completely different look for your diner breakfast.

You don't have to do all of the work yourself when it comes to serving breakfast in bed. Instead of giving your recipient a completed breakfast give them something that they can assemble themselves. Set up a buffet of breakfast foods for your recipient to assemble into their own breakfast sandwich(es). Mini bagels, fried eggs, bacon strips, sausage patties, sliced cheese, fried onions, and ham all make great choices for an assemble your own breakfast sandwich. Include other items to be eaten by hand such as fruit slices and add a glass of juice and/or coffee.

Dessert for breakfast, why not? Yogurt parfaits are delicious and still nutritious and perfect as a snack, dessert, or even breakfast. Layers of yogurt, fresh berries, and granola can be combined to make a delicious parfait for serving as breakfast in bed. To make this breakfast more unique you can serve the parfait to your loved one on a round platter. Hold the platter beside your head using just one hand to make them feel as if they truly are getting special treatment. This makes a great breakfast in bed option for Mother's Day or a child's birthday.

Want to surprise your loved one with breakfast in bed but don't want to wake them up to do it? Serve a breakfast that can last for an hour without worrying about it getting cold. Plug in an electric tea kettle full of hot water beside the bed making sure it is far enough away that your loved one won't accidentally become burned. Set a tray on their bedside table holding a bowl, spoon, and package of oatmeal for the main course. As a side dish you could include a banana to be eaten alone or sliced over the oatmeal. Add a mug filled with instant coffee granules or a tea bag and be sure to ensure sugar and non dairy powdered creamer for sweetening. You can include a special note as well such as "Happy Father's Day!" or "Have a Great Day!" This breakfast in bed surprise will surely help your loved one to get off on the right side of the bed.

Another way you can set up this surprise breakfast is to set a tray of food on the bedside table and click on the television which should automatically be turned down all the way and on their favorite channel. Standing outside of the bedroom door you can slowly adjust the volume which will act like an alarm clock. Or you could just place a rose or other favorite flower nearby their face so when they awaken they immediately see it. As they pick it up and turn over to see where you are you will be standing there holding their breakfast tray. This romantic gesture would work perfectly for a surprise breakfast in bed for Valentine's Day or an Anniversary.

Using the television idea above you could have the channel set for morning cartoons instead. Once your loved one has awakened they will see you holding a tray filled with items for their breakfast in bed. Sometimes as adults all we need is to take a break from responsibility and just be a kid again. For the actual breakfast food you could include a bowl of their favorite cereal as a child, chocolate chip pancakes with a smiley face drawn on with whipped cream, and a glass of juice. If your breakfast in bed falls on a Sunday morning, such as for Mother's or Father's Day, you could include the comics on the breakfast tray as well.

Have some fun with that special breakfast in bed using one or more of these ideas. Whatever you decide to do your loved one is sure to appreciate the effort you put into it. For romantic occasions be sure to add some extra food for you on the breakfast tray as well. Enjoy!
