Fun Indoor Activities for Kids

Turn Off the T.V,

Eve
Winter is the perfect time for kids to explore their creativity and what better time than now to be a kid, with computer games and activities galore there is no excuse for our children to be vegged out in front of the t.v.

Books, are great! I recently discovered you use a huge portion of your brain reading out loud! Read to your kids and have them return the favor and read to you. Have family reading time when each person spends time reading anything they want and just hang out together. Sweeten the activity with hot cocoa. Teach your kids to read early they will benefit in the long run.

Jigsaw puzzles can be a fun family activity that all can participate in . I know it sounds old school but imagine instilling patience as the family works together towards a common goal. Do I hear "teamwork" anyone? Its really about getting to know each other again and making memories.

Board games are the best. This teaches kids about winning and losing and how to handle that. It teaches them to take turns, pay attention and interact with others. The family that plays together stays together. Card games like uno or regular playing cards can pass the time and be very enjoyable.

Purchase a craft kit from Walmart. Have your kids make animal puppets and put on a show. Put a blanket up that they can put the puppets behind and have them come up with a story to enteric you. Take it a step further and have them design the set and paint the backdrop. It can be as simple or elaborate as they want. This is very fun and creative.

Let them dress up in old Halloween costumes and put on a play for you and invite neighborhood friends to participate. Some of my most fondest childhood memories are of doing this. They can add music as well.

Let your kids explore their imaginations and try not to worry too much about the mess. Baking with kids is an adventure all on its own but the rewards can be so sweet! It takes a little extra time but they have a feeling of pride and accomplishment when those cookies come out of the oven and they taste what they have created.

Next I am not a fan of playing ball in the house but there is nothing wrong with tossing a small soft ball around the room that had the least amount of breakables. As long as it is under control there is no harm in it. Then the leggos...oh the leggos go on for days! My kids love leggos ...just make sure they are contained where you can not step on them because this hurts!
