Fun and Interesting Animals Facts

Della R. Buckland
We all know interesting bits of information about our jobs, our hobbies and even our pet's personalities. We know food facts, car facts and even house facts. But what about the entire animal kingdom? The folks at www.corsinet.com and www.usefultrivia.com offer several hundred facts about the animal kingdom as well as quizzes and projects for children and those young at heart. After perusing the sites, here are twelve facts that stood out as fascinating tidbits of information sure to make anyone stop and think.

1. Animals also are right handed or left handed. Polar Bears are left handed. (Then my dogs must be ambidextrous as they are always begging with both paws.)

2. There are about fifty-four million dogs in the United States, and Paris is said to have more dogs than people.

3. Sharks are immune to all known diseases. (Not lawyers, the animals themselves. Maybe a bit more medical study is in order.)

4. Domestic cats purr at about twenty-six cycles per second, the same frequency as an idling diesel engine. (No wonder a person can be woken from a deep sleep, sounds like a truck is rumbling by when their cat is with them.)

5. A giraffe can clean its ears with its tongue. (Their tongues are fifteen inches long.)

6. Millions of trees are accidentally planted by squirrels who bury nuts and forget where they hid them. (See humans are not the only ones who can be nuts.)

7. The coyote is a member of the dog family and its scientific name canis latrans means barking dog.

8. There are about one billion cattle in the world of which two hundred million are in India.

9. A house fly lives only fourteen days. (That is why there so many, the live a full life in only two weeks. I would be tired too.)

10. The South American Giant Anteater eats more than thirty thousand ants a day.

11. African Elephants only have four teeth to chew food with.

12. The pig is rated fourth among the most intelligent animals in the world, but only mentioned twice in the Bible.

See interesting and it is always good to learn something new everyday. It is always good to explore and expand one's horizon. As the folks at corsinet.com state it is an interesting way to waste time on the internet and wake up your brain cells at the same time.
