Roger Federer was born on August 8, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland.

Parents are Robert and Lynette Federer. Roger's mother is from South Africa while his father is Swiss. He has one older sister, Diana.

Federer held the number 1 ranking for 237 straight weeks from February 2, 2004 until August 18, 2008 relinquishing the top spot to Rafael Nadal. Roger regained the number 1 ranking again on July 6, 2009.

Roger Federer is married to former women's tennis player Mirka Vavrinec. They have two twin daughters named Myla and Charlene who were born in July 2009.

The tennis great founded the Roger Federer Foundation, a charity that promotes sports and education to South African children as well as children in other countries where there is a need.
