Luckily, there are fun things kids can do in the house on bad weather days, the fun rainy day and snowy day activities highlighted here are easy to plan, set up and can keep the kids busy for hours at a time.
Fort Fun
I can remember as a child, making a fort in the house on a rainy day was one of my most favorite things to do. I would play in the fort I made for an extended period of time and it was a time that I used my imagination for hours. A fort in the home can be made from using light blankets or sheets, the blankets or sheets can be attached to chairs using hair ties, string, yarn or whatever is lying around the house. The blankets or sheets can also be thrown over a table making sure the sheets or blankets are long enough to touch the ground. Bringing flashlights and sleeping bags inside the fort makes the experience even more exciting.
Dress Up Treasure Chest
I did this fun rainy day and snowy day activity with my own children and they used to love it when they were little. I had a box that I decorated to look like a treasure chest and I placed some of my old dresses, skirts and tops in the box along with hats, plastic tiaras, wands and anything else I thought my daughters would enjoy putting on. I also placed a long vertical mirror near the dress up treasure chest so that my girls could look at themselves during dress up and also when their outfit was complete. My daughters absolutely loved this fun activity on a rainy or snowy day. Men's clothes could easy be placed in the treasure chest if a rainy or snowy day activity is needed for a boy.
Make Notecards
Notecards are always useful for writing thank you notes, for saying hi or to share some special news. Kids love making cards and they really are simple to make. Blank notecards and envelopes can be purchased at large discount stores or craft stores for a reasonable price. The notecards can then be embellished with items such as glitter glue, sparkle gems, construction paper or anything else interesting that you can think of. Large craft stores are great inspiration, just by walking through the store; it is easy find items that kids can glue on the notecards to make them personalized and add that special touch.
