Neighborhood: Mission Hills
San Diego, CA 92103
United States of America
If you want to have a relaxing evening and kick back a few brews, try one of the trivia nights in San Diego. You can be loud and obnoxious without fear of being dragged out in handcuffs. The beer is cheap, the happy hour appetizers won't strain your wallet, and you might take home a great prize. Of course, you also get to show everyone how smart you are. This article will review six different pubs and bars that offer trivia nights.

Kipper's Trivia Night at the Whistle Stop Bar- Trivia nights are every first and third Monday and are not for the faint of heart. The cut-throat action starts at 9:30pm, but plan to arrive early to get a choice seat. All participants pay a $2 fee, and cheap drinks are the order of the night. The cash prize of well over $100 to the winner may be enough motivation for you to come and check out the action.

Kipper writes his own questions to keep contestants surprised and on their toes. The basic Trivial Pursuit questions are interspersed with oddball questions such as name that celebrity mustache, or name that cheese. Groups of one to five people make up a team, depending on the size of the crowd. Six rounds of mostly audio and visual themes are played each Monday night. With cheap drinks being consumed in abundance, expect a lot of heckling and insults to be traded between teams before a winner is declared.

The Whistle Stop Bar is located in South Park at 2236 Fern St, San Diego, CA. 92104. The phone number is (619) 284-6784.

The Bitter End- Tuesday is trivia night at the Bitter End. The bar is usually packed so get there about an hour before the 9pm starting time if you want to get a seat. Pints of beer are just $2.50. If you have a group with you or just want to drink the night away, you can buy a pitcher of the special brew of the evening for just $10.

Trivia is played in four rounds. The 1st round is general knowledge, with a daily double thrown in. The second round moves to music, artist, and title, and can be the most challenging round. In the 3rd round, a partially obstructed face is shown and you have to guess who it is. The 4th round is a repeat of the 1st round, but doesn't last as long.

Many alcohol-fueled smart alecks call out the wrong answers on purpose, getting on the nerves of the serious players. Questions are often repeated more than once.

The Bitter End Bar is located at 770 5th Avenue, San Diego, CA. 92101. The phone number is (619) 338-9300.

Shakespeare Pub & Grill- The last Sunday of the month is trivia night and the action starts promptly at 7pm. The trivia questions are read by Quiz Mistress "Ruthless" Thomas. The categories are general knowledge, such as History, Music, or Entertainment.

Teams of no more than six people compete for a $75 gift certificate to the Shakespeare, with the runner up team receiving a $50 gift certificate. The Shakespeare Pub & Grill is located at 3701 India St, San Diego, CA. 92103. The phone number is (619) 299-0230.

Check out the "think and drink" trivia night at Winston's Beach Club. The action takes place on Tuesdays from 6-8pm. Come early for the cheap drinks and dollar pizza slices from 5:30-6pm. If you arrive on time, the host, Jessie-San, will buy you a shot. The questions are the usual general topics such as, history, movie stars, geography, movies, etc. The host asks six questions per round, and answers are submitted on slips of paper and given back to the host. The host reads the answers back and awards points to the winners. You can play solo or join a team. If you don't know the answer to a question, make a humorous guess, and if no one else guesses the answer, you may be awarded extra points. Everyone who participates wins a prize, with the winners picking their prize first. There is always a mystery prize, which can be something nice like a television, or a token, such as a can of spam.

The crowd is friendly, the drinks are flowing, and Jose Sinatra provides the music and his own style of comedy.

Winston's Beach Club is located at 1921 Bacon St, San Diego, CA. 92107. The phone number is (619) 222-6822.

If you like good music and stick to your ribs Irish food, head down to Dublin Square Pub for the Pub Quiz trivia game on Tuesday nights. Your quiz host is Allen Walker, so team up or play solo to win prizes like a cool pint glass to add to your collection Take advantage of cheap happy hour drinks, and try a basket of their famous onion rings. The crowd can be loud, but are usually not obnoxious.

The Dublin Square Irish Pub is located at 554 Fourth Street, San Diego, CA 92101. The phone number is (619)239-5818.

Very nice comparisons. Well organized and written as well. I've never heard of bars having trivia nights until now. I wish some in my area did. My hubby is a genius that likes beer, lol.
