Originally incorporated as a city in 1837, Michigan City, Indiana has always been a popular hub of tourist activity. It wasn't until the late 1800's that the first public park and library were established in the city, paving the way for many more businesses to come and opening the doors to tourists from all around the country.
One of Michigan City's premier attractions, the Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa is only open to those who are 21 years of age or older. Encompassing 35 acres of real estate, the Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa features a large gaming floor complete with 1,940 slot machines and 48 gaming tables, five restaurants, two separate hotel towers, and a full beauty spa. The Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa is also home to the Stardust Event Center, which is used regularly for meetings and special events.

Open to tourists Monday through Saturday afternoons, the Great Lakes Museum of Military History is dedicated to preserving the military significance of the Great Lakes and the surrounding areas. Admission to the Great Lakes Museum of Military History is free for veterans and children aged 7 and younger.

With roots dating all the way back to 1925, the Washington Park Zoo is a fun and entertaining tourist attraction that is meant for the entire family. Mammal displays include monkeys, goats, mountain lions, zebras, bobcats, tigers and lions, while reptile displays include alligators, ball pythons, king snakes, geckos, iguanas, and tortoises. Bird exhibits include the bald eagle, the African grey parrot, the great horned owl, the speckled penguin and the ostrich. The Washington Park Zoo is typically open from the beginning of April until the end of October.
