Fun Photo Projects for Children

Lights, Camera, Action!

If your children have shown an interest in photography, there is no better time to get involved in this wonderful hobby. Whether they prefer to start with a digital camera or the 'old fashioned' kind, there are many, kid-tested, models to choose from. You will find they are quite easy to use and produce good quality photos.

Photography promotes creativity and stimulates the imagination. Because of these facts, the number of fun photo projects, available to your children, can be almost endless.

If you have a nature lover in the family, suggest a nature collage. Have them take several pictures of anything nature-related... trees, small animals, bugs, flowers and sunsets are just a few examples.

Cut prints into shapes and place on poster or mounting board, as desired. (As with any collage project, cover the entire board.) Glue photos into place. Last but not least, frame, hang and admire the finished masterpiece!

Another fun, photo, project is a scavenger hunt. Make a list of objects and/or situations your children may encounter in a typical week. Allow them to carry the camera with them, when appropriate, during this timeframe.

At the end of the week, have your children make a photo journal, of the pictures they took and how they found each object. The journal will provide a great way to remember the fun they had, participating in the hunt.

Award a small prize to the winner, or each child, if desired.

Are you an eBay™ seller? If so, you probably know that a great picture and description of your auction item can make or break the sale. Allow your children to be your 'official photographers'. Encourage them to take several shots of each item. Once completed, have them vote on the best one to use with each auction.

(If you have photo-editing software, suggest that they add a caption or nifty background, to the chosen photo. A little pizzazz, on an auction photo, can go a long way!)

You can take this one step further by allowing them to sell some of their own stuff that is taking up space in their closets. Not only will their rooms be cleaner, they'll be a bit wealthier, as well!

These are just three examples of fun, photo, projects geared toward children. Take the time to sit down with your children and ask for input on the kind of projects they are interested in. You'll be glad you did!
