Fun Photography Gifts for Christmas or Hanukkah

Julia Bodeeb
Home-made gifts are the best! And photographs are something that will document a certain time in life and will be a treasured gift. There are many fun DIY photo gift projects.

A Book of Garden Photos

Looking back at garden photos during the cold winter months is always great fun. Photos of flowers bring joy to the heart and remind the gift recipient of the warm summer days out in the sun enjoying the garden.

It is easy to make a great gift by taking pictures of the garden all summer. Then collect them all together and sort through them to find the best photos. Then make them into a book. You can use poster board to make book pages and then mount the photos on each page. Or you could attach the photos to paper and then bring the packet to a store like Kinkos to have a book made.

This will be a special gift that will bring back wonderful gardening memories. This is a one of a kind gift that will be beloved.

Photo Messages

Create a photo display that sends a special message to someone as a gift. First figure out what message you want to use. You could take photos of kids in a family holding signs that say "We" "Love" "You." Each kid will hold one word. Then find a frame that holds three photos and a wonderful gift is created.

Other phrases that could be used include ideas like "Joy to the World" for a group holiday photo or have someone hold a piece of poster board with the date when the picture was taken on it. There are many messages that would be fun to use such as: Ho, ho, ho, or noel, or peace on earth. For holiday pictures maybe someone would even wear a Santa cap to bring a little humor to the photo.

Memory Book

A book of photos from all the years of a relationship or marriage would be a great holiday gift. Another memory book idea is to create a book for a child that shows his or her early years through pictures.

Photos could also be compiled from a special vacation and made into a book. There are many different ways to make a memory book gift. Be creative and think about what memories would be joy to the person who will receive the gift.

Poster Sized Display

For a college student or teen a poster sized display of photos would be a fun gift. Compile some pictures from the person's life that include photos with friends. Try to find a few pictures that are humorous.

Get a big piece of stiff poster board. Then mount the photos on the paper with glue or photo mounts. You may want to use color Xeroxes of the photos to preserve the original picture.

Add some quotes that might be of interest if you want to add something else to the poster. Or Xerox pages from a book that relate to the photos.

This gift can be framed or placed on a stiff piece of foam board to make it easy to hang. This gift will give someone a poster that will make them smile as they see their friends looking out at them.

Ooh, these are great ideas. One of my favorite photo gifts was given to my by my daughter. We went to see a play together and she framed a montage that included a picture of us, the ticket, part of the Playbill, etc. It still sits on my dresser, sentimental fool that I am.
