Fun Snowman Ideas for Christmas Gift Giving

dessy321
I love this time of year; it is so exciting with Christmas around the corner. Now is the time for me to start planning out my Christmas gift list to make the holidays less stressful. I already hit the craft stores, and bought the items I need to make some fun snowman gifts. The snowmen that I am making for gifts are fairly easy to make and can be filled with different candies, nuts or baked goods. Below I listed three craft ideas for snowmen, which you can make yourself at home, to give away to someone on your Christmas gift list.

The Snowman Tower of Goodies

This snowman is made with 3 nesting boxes. The small box will be Frosty's face and hat, and the remaining two boxes are his body. The supplies you will need are plain white nesting boxes, googly eyes, black craft foam, glue, tape, ribbon, sticky back Velcro, and black sharpie marker.

Step 1-Frosty's Hat - Small Top Box

*Mark off a pencil line of where the small boxes lid sits when in place onto one side.
Lay out one piece of black craft foam onto the table. Place the small box lid onto the center of the foam, and mark the outline of the box top with a pencil. Next, tilt the box onto its side, marking off the edge of the box top. Measure with a ruler the space between the box top line and the box edge. Use this measurement to mark off the remaining 3 sides. Repeat this with second piece of foam.

To cover the box lid with the craft foam is a bit tricky, but the end result is a realistic looking hat. Using scissors cut the foam around the outer outline. Next, cut a straight line to the inner outline on each of the four sides. Generously place the glue on the top of the lid, and edges, now press down the foam to the top and sides, use tape to hold in place until dry.

Take the second piece of foam, cut out the outlined square about 1/4 larger then the outline. Set onto the table, and mark off an square of approximately 1/2 inch inside the outline marked in pencil. Fold the foam in half with pencil outlines out, snip the foam in the center of the inside outline. Next, cut out the inside of the foam along the second square outline. Snip diagonal cuts into the foam from the inner square to the outer square.

Take the small box top that is covered with foam, spread glue onto the inside edges of the lid. Secure the second piece of foam to the lid by folding over the flaps to the glue, secure with tape. Set aside until dry.

Cut out a thin piece of ribbon to wrap around the hat, where the brim is secured. Place a thin bead of glue around the box top near the brim, and wrap the ribbon around, securing it with tape until dry.

Step 2-Frosty's Face-Small box

Place the small box onto the table with the pencil mark facing you. Pick out two symmetrical googly eyes from your collection for Frosty's face. To mark off where the googly eyes will sit, you can either use a pencil and mark off one inch from the pencil mark in two spots, or use your eye judgment in repositioning the eyes until you are satisfied. Once you have your eyes positioned, glue each one to the box and allow to dry.

For the nose, cut out orange pipe cleaner approximately 3 inches long. Bend the pipe clean in half, and make a kink just before the tip. Using a sharp object, you are going to poke a small hole in the box with the eyes for the pipe cleaner nose. Insert the pipe cleaner into the hole, until you are satisfied with the length of Frosty's nose.

For Frosty's mouth, use a black sharpie, color in 6 charcoal pieces into a smile.

Step 3- Securing Frosty's Body

Set the medium size box with lid onto the table in front of you. Take one piece of sticky back Velcro, peel off one backing, place it directly on the center of the mid size boxes lid, and gently push down to adhere. Peel off the sticky backing to expose adhesive, pick up the small box, using your eye judgment center it over the mid size box and set down onto the sticky back Velcro. Carefully lift off the lid from the mid size box which now holds your small box, and set aside. Repeat this step with the larger box lid and mid size box bottom.

Take the black foam and but out 5 small squares to be your charcoal buttons, and secure down the middle of the mid and large size box in a uniform line.

Step 4- Frosty's scarf

In this step you will be securing the ribbon color of your choice, around the lid of the mid size box. You will want to cut out a piece of ribbon 4 to 5 inches longer then the perimeter of the box lid. Starting with one side, spread glue the width of the ribbon over the side of lid, apply the ribbon, and run your finger across to push securely onto the glue. Repeat this step with the remaining sides. Allow to dry.

Using your scissors, cut off the ends of the ribbon at an angle. Carefully make a knot by folding one end of ribbon into the other, gently pull until the knot is snug to box lid.

The Candy Snowman

This snowman features a mason jar filled with candy, or dry baking goods for cookies with recipe card. The supplies you will be needing are: Jar of your choice, Christmas snow material, googly eyes, stryofoam ball the size of the opening of the jar, orange pipe cleaner, glue, glue gun, ribbon, black felt, and black sharpie marker.

Step 1. Remove the lid from the mason jar and set aside. Cover the Styrofoam ball with the Christmas snow. Take you scissors, cut off the snow leaving 2 inches of material, now set aside for later. Using a knife you want to shave off the bottom of the Styrofoam ball so that it sits flush onto the lid. Apply glue generously to the top of the Styrofoam ball, drape the cut Christmas snow over the ball and press the top to adhere to the glue.

Step 2. Using a glue gun, place a dab of hot glue onto the lid of the mason jar. Place the flat edge of the Styrofoam ball onto the glue. In this next step, you are going to apply a bead of glue around the edge of the lid, and secure the snow around the lid.

Step 3. Secure the lid to the mason jar so you can begin to work on Frosty's face. Adhere 2 googly eyes to the Styrofoam ball topper, allow to dry. Cut the orange pipe cleaner in a one inch piece, adhere to Styrofoam ball topper, allow to dry. For the mouth, cut out small squares of the black craft foam and adhere to Styrofoam ball topper with glue.

Step 4. To make the hat, you will need a piece of toilet paper tube cut in the length of two inches. Using the black felt, cut out one circle slightly larger then the tube, a second circle 1/2 inch larger, and one piece to go around the outside. Next, Spread a thin layer of glue on the inside of the tube, and insert the edges of the circle in place. Apply a thin layer of glue around the outside of the tube, and adhere the rectangular piece of black felt. Apply a thin layer of glue around the bottom of the tube, and center it onto the large circle. Allow to dry.

Step 5. Adhere the hat to Frosty's head with glue.

The Snowman Christmas Card Holder

This cute snowman features Frosty holding your Christmas cards. The supplies you will need are: 2 foam poster boards, glue, black felt, foam board, googly eyes, orange pipe cleaner, ribbon, ruler, and pencil.

Step 1. The outline of your snowman that you will need to draw out on the foam poster board will have 3 circles, and a hat. Make sure you have a square bottom of approximately 5 inches for the snowman to stand. Using an exact-o knife cut out your snowman.

Step 2. Place snowman onto the foam poster board, and outline only the bottom circle of snowman's body. Cut this circle out with the Exact-o knife.

Step 3. On the edge of the remaining large poster foam board, cut out 3 rectangular squares the size of 4 inches by 5 inches for the box that will hold the cards. Glue these pieces together to form a partial box frame in the shape of the letter u. Set aside to dry. These will be positioned later on in between the two snowman cut outs.

Step 4. Adhere the googly eyes to the facial area with glue, follow up with the orange pipe cleaner for the nose, and ribbon for the scarf.

Step 5. Color in with the black sharpie, the charcoal mouth, and buttons

Step 6. Lay the snowman onto the table, pick up the partial box frame, and apply a bead of glue around all sides. Place this at the flat bottom on snowman's lower body. Allow to dry.

Step 7. Place a bead of glue around the U shaped box frame, pick up the bottom circle of the snowman, carefully position this piece of the snowman's body so that it lines up with the whole body. Allow to dry.

Step 8. Cut out an triangle from the foam poster board to use as an support piece for Frosty. Adhere this to the rear of Frosty, making sure it is centered and located at the square edge of the snowman.
